Thoughts on AirHawk seat cushion
Both BMWs owned (RT and S) have Corbin seats. Comfort never an issue for 300-400 mile days but anything more- my poor A$$. No way I could even think about doing an Iron Butt.
Did purchase a Air Hawk cushion earlier in the year and finally got to test it on a Houston to Colorado trip last month. Did back-to-back 600 mile days twice (up and back) and would consider an Iron Butt because of the Air Hawk cushion. On the return trip, if did not have a hotel reservation in Amarillo, would have kept on moving south toward Houston. Worth every cent if you have troubles with the rear on extended rides. Nathan |
Got a friend that has one and loves it.

This post is worthless without pics.
p.s. not of your a$$ |
Heres where you put you're asp. The air is segrated to each side which keeps the pressure even on each cheek. lol

I fit one under the sheepskin cover on my R11S and it is well worthwhile.
The only reason that I don't use it on the GS, is that the road has trouble reaching my feet when I fit the Air Hawk. Fortunately, the Sargeant seat on the GS reduces the need for the Air Hawk. |
I used one for a very short while. Even with most of the air out I thought I lost some of the "feel" of the bike.

Naked Rider Response
I agree with you 100%, using the AirHawk you do loose "the feel of the bike" as I am a firm believer on motorcycles, cars, and fast boats- there is a feeling of "driving by the seat of your pants" especially in fast outboards (had three Allisoncrafts) that is very important in staying upright.
For that reason, did NOT use AirHawk in the mountains for those 250-300 miles days. Used AirHawk just on the "pounding pavement" portion of the trip. Did experiment with AirHawk on Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Durango. That just lasted about ten minutes. I want anything between the seat and my A$$ except riding pants because AirHawk does impair riding positioning transfer of weight on turns/curves. AirHawk sure is nice on Interstate roads. |
Do we need a poll on seat-of-the-pants riders.:D I certainly wouldn't indorse it for carving the twisties; but, for long haul point a to point b, it would probably save on monkey butt.

I don't think "Naked Rider" is eligible to participate in that poll Nail. i guess bare ass gives the most rider feedback. :)

Wouldn't consider droning along the Interstate without mine!

What model fits the R1100S best? Thinking about picking one up. Fwiw, I'm about 5'9 165lbs.

Comfort is king but that looks (insert your term)... I have used and like the Alaska sheep skin pad. Don't think I'd put a Woolly Bully on an S though... |
