R1100S Spiegler Brake Line Kit

My bike is 2002 with integral ABS ...

Question: Is installation same as stock or does the configuration of the lines change with Spiegler? Thinking front, mostly as rear is just one straight line.

I just did my 2001. Fairly simple but still took a few hours including bleeding.

You change everything including the "T" fitting on the fork.

Pick up a bag of small nylon ties to finish the job.

Hmm, almost everything as I recall - there is a short hard pipe between the T and the left front line - that stays.

Hello All, another question about the Spiegler brake line kit.

The MAX BMW fiche shows the rear Brake Hose 34 32 2 331 901, which is the same part for No ABS, ABS, and IABS.

But the Spiegler site (and other brands) do not show brake lines for IABS, only for No ABS or ABS II.

If the rear brake hoses are interchangeable, is there a reason why they are not listed for IABS by Spiegler?

I plan to change the rear hose on my 2004 with IABS soon, because of a draggy caliper, would like to hear from anyone who's made this upgrade sucessfully.

Thanks!
Jeff

mendoje:

I also have a 2004 R1100S with ABS. I changed both the front and rear with the Spiegler front/rear kit S-BM0124.

Spiegler now sells the the clutch line kit (must be a new product) .

The money I spend on this motorcycle, I could have leased a car for less.

I think IABS and ABSII are one in the same.

I think not..I believe one (IABS) may be servo assisted and ABSII is not..and way simpler.

I await correction...

I may be the one corrected... A quick look and some references come up about ABSII being non-integrated.

Hi Groceryrun,

When you apply the brakes, do you hear a very loud whining noise? If so, that would be from the power assist servo on IABS. If your 2004 has ABS, I'm pretty sure it's IABS, but can you confirm?

All, here's a good link on Anton's site summarizing BMW ABS1, ABS2, and IABS
systems:
ABS faults

Thanks All!
Jeff

Hi Jeff:

Both the front and back brake calipers are labeled "BMW".
Whenever I use the brakes, the ABS unit whines, and does not stop till I release the brakes.
In my opinion, they are power-assisted brakes - if the engine ever stops, there will be minimum, and I mean minimum, braking power (as far as what I'm experiencing on my bike).

When I replaced the brake lines a couple of years ago, they were in very good condition as
far as I could tell. I still have them. I did not cut them open to see what the insides looked like.
What the brake kit did not come with, is the 14 inch EPDM tubing (please feel free to correct me If I'm wrong about the material) between the rear reservoir (fluid container rear) and the rear brake master cylinder.
I know you can buy it from BMW and Brembo, but I was hoping to get something fancy - like the braided hose with vinyl covering to match the Speigler kit.
I guess the reason the fancy hose would not be appropriate for this situation is because it has teflon tubing on the inside and teflon might not expand and compress when used on the master cylinder and reservoir fittings.
