WOW! Who'd a thought it would turn out so nice! That would look great on a black bike.

Did you give it a coat of clear? It would improve shine and protect the carbon fiber from oxidation.

Looks like you did a nice job. What bike is it going on? I had a BCR and I liked the paint job on the pan, but if you scored the pan and are mounting it to a different R11S then it makes sense. I bought a full carbon belly pan for my R12S and ended up painting it. I like carbon accents, and knowing that parts are carbon, but I don't have to see all the weave. At some point it's too much.

Yes, it will be black on the inside, and have protective heat foil.

I gave few clear coats and between coats -- wet sanding. 400, 800, and a 1000 sand paper, crazy hah??

the carbon looks good , i would add some 3M film the the leading edges that face the front tire to reduce the chance of shattering the Carbon and abrading from small stones, possibly run a strip down the center you can buy the 3M film on Ebay in different widths you could probably use 2X 6 in. wide strips.

I would also suggest to paint the inside white and add the heat foil to near where the pipes run.
White will not get as hot as black, it reflects heat
and will show up leaks easier plus it looks really sano

3M film is a good idea! Thank you Mrmerlin for advice.

Yep, I have a home painted pan too, and it chipped very quickly at the chin, I wish I put 3M film early on.

BMW still sell the pre cut 3M film for the front of the belly pan. Just bought a set from the dealer myself. However the pre cut film ends 2/3 from top of the mid post between the two air scopes, so I recommend adding a bit more film. Good paint protection against road debris.

Thumbs up

Very nice job on the paint removal, clean up and polish! I second the tape idea, especially nice if you run through some wet paint on the road like a friend of mine did a few years ago over by Boone. There seems to be a lot if it on the roads in the Carolinas, not to mention if you should happen across a fresh tar & chip job!
