Severe Hesitation on R1200S

New to this bike. Bike has just shy of 40K miles.

In gears 3-6 it has a severe hesitation when you accelerate quickly. If you hold the throttle for several seconds or release the throttle slightly the hesitation is minimized.
The bike idles fine, has a bit of a burble off throttle at low speed.

Through some Techron in the gas, but thinking that this might be an issue where the throttle bodies need syncing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

First step would always be a good tune-up. Plugs, air cleaner, valve adjust, then throttle body sync. Or do free stuff first. Then take the troubleshooting from there if the problem still exists. But how can you know anything without eliminating those potential problem areas first?

Nickels to Donuts

Sounds exactly the same issue my friend had with his twin spark R1150RT.

It was a bad coil stick.

What is a coil stick? It is part of the plug wire and serves as a mini-coil. You can purchase them and it takes a moment to install. For analysis, he found some shade tree test on the Internet that proved to be correct. Maybe one of the manuals covers testing a coil stick. Had to do something with RPMs dropping. Maybe a shop will tell you how to check.

It was fairly simple and something I would do before setting valves, sycning throttle bodies, new plugs, ....

Good luck,

Nathan

If I had just bought a bike with 40,000 miles on it like the OP did, you bet I'd be doing a complete tune-up on it. Ridiculous not to, unless maintenance records tell you otherwise.

i found that replacing the stock wheels with carbon ones, reduced hesitation immensely!

Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to start with Nathan's and finish with Sheddr's. With a tune up in between. Starting my 2nd shift job search that I will need to afford the new carbon wheels.
