Pirelli Diablos
I was at a little indy bike shop talking tires yesterday (actually being talked to about tires) and the manager said he had a set of Pirelli Diablo tires he would sell me for $150. I'll never drag a foot peg and for that matter will never even utilize the full potential of the bike I just bought. I bought the bike for commuting, weekend rides, and to have something besides assault rifles to throw money at. Are these decent tires based on my less-than-lofty cycle goals?

How worn are the tires, or how long have they been sitting dry-rotting in a storage room in poor conditions?
Not that there has to be something wrong with the tires to be able to get them for that cheap, but something tells me there's something wrong with those tires if they're so cheap...

i agree with brent.
even at a good price, you'll wear through the center tread of the diablos faster than you would if you bought something with a little harder compound, which would last longer. if you count pennies per microns of wear, you're better off with the harder tire.

I have liked Pirelli tires for the last 10 years or so. The Diablo line is their sport bike line, for sure. The straight Diablo is the hardest, and it softens with the Diablo Rosso, and softer yet with the Rosso Corsa. I particularly like the wet weather handling of the Pirelli Diablo line.
I mostly ride in the sport-touring mode, 1-up, 30 lb of luggage/tools, and in the Rockies, at somewhat supra-legal speedwise. Generally I travel with a group of old fogeys like myself on 3-4000 mile trips with time spent ton-up. I loved the Rosso Corsa on my Duc 999, but the back tire is done in 3-4000 mi. because it wears flat with my kind of riding, but I like the sticky in the twisties. The straight Diablo was a great choice for my Moto Guzzi V11S, for its stickiness, but again, the rear tire was badly worn in the center by 4000mi. This bike is very comparable to the R1100S in most respects. I will be trying a set of the new Angel GTs next season on my new bcr. I hope to see better center wear.
