15w/50 oil
Would anyone know or is it possible using the same brand of oil to blend a 15/50 using the same companies 20/50, 0/30, 5/30, 10/30, 10/40, or 15/40. Basically what I would like to do is use whatever ratio I would need using the 20/50 blend it down to a 15/50, can it be done? Thanks.

It doesn't work like that. The blend may not mix and you will have two layers of different oils in the pan, doing strange things. If it mixes fine (same base oil), it will do that, but additive packages will be messed up.
But why do you care anyway. 20w50 is just fine. If you live up north, use 10w40 over the winter and switch to 20w50 for the summer. Otherwise, Mobil 1 exists in 15w50 that many people use successfully on our engines. Last edited by Meeni; 02-27-2013 at 11:50 AM.. |

There's a big difference in Mobil 1 15w50 automotive synthetic and their 20w50 VTwin motorcycle synthetic. The VTwin has significantly more zinc and phosphorous anti-wear additive. Few, if any, other oils offer a similar ZDDP formulation.
