fuel controller worth it?

So, I bought an '02 R1100S last august and thoroughly enjoy it. The previous owner (who never road it as it only had 4294mi on) did put a Ztechnik system on it. This produces a decel pop that drives me nuts as well as head pipes that are blued to dog $--t. I got a K&N air filter for x-mas which I would love to install but I'm pretty sure something is going to have to be done to richen it up. Does anyone have any thoughts on either the techlusion or the gen 3 EJK? this is my first EFI bike and I hate throwing money at things that don't have much gain.

When I dyno'd my 11S right after making the same type changes it was dangerously lean. Don't know about the other one but the Techlusion I had richen'd it up perfectly. I would bet you need to do the same.

Thanks Wigg! Techlusion is ordered and should be here next week. What settings did you put yours at? I wont be installing it yet as it is still way too cold in my garage and riding season won't be here for a good couple of months. I would just like an idea of where to start.

If I remember correctly, the instructions come with baseline settings, I believe they are on the web too.

Mainah, have a read up on this, I've not tried it myself yet as, as you said, "it's far too cold in the garage" but I will give it a go when I can get round to taking the left side pannel off (R1100S)

Hugzy- the unit isn't hear yet. Should be here Fri. When it gets here I'll leave it in the box on the bench until the weather turns the corner.

What's the difference between the techlusion and the gen 3 EJK? They are about the same price.

...pretty sure they are both made by Techlusion.

You'll be most benefited by using the module to richen up the low RPM, and not so much the higher range. Fuel consumption will drop adding more fuel up top.
Decel popping is still going to be there though.
With too much fuel I had blue flames shooting out the Vanderlindes on decel.

At any rate, almost every BMW I've ever had has some decel pop, noticeably more when you open it up with freer flowing pipes and such.

I'm running a booster plug right now and have been happy with it. Little to no decel popping. But it's running pretty rich. Just thought it was weird they had a separate website for the gen 3 and still selling the older one for the same price. May buy one to see if I can dial it in a little better.

Am I the only one that gets off on the "pop"? My R100 shoots flames out the exhaust on decel too - I love it so much I wear out rear tires engine braking it so hard

I have the ztechnics too and I've been running the Techlusion for several years. It gets pretty bad gas mileage and won't pass emissions with it connected but at least I think the engine is happy running rich.

The popping was very annoying when I was running lean. I was surprised how much the exhaust note changed when I installed the booster plug. The little popping I have now is a nice low rumble. What I don't like is smelling like spent gas everytime I take the bike out.

I have another thread out here Any Chipped bikes out there for a chipped bike getting lousy gas mileage and I would consider a controller, but was surprised to see mention of lower gas mileage. I am @ 27mpg… 110 miles a week 75 highway 25 - 30 city. If I got any less mileage I could drive my truck!
I am thinking of swapping the ecu with the Rhinewest chip that is installed for a stock one. I also have a Rhemus exhaust system. I adjusted the valves and have a spot on tb synch. I had the O2 disconnected but RhineWest sad they mapped it with the unit connected. Now it surges and I still get lousy MPG.
I’m thinking swap the ECU see how it runs and then plan B would be Techlusion or simply revert to stock. I'd swap the ECU straight up, you pay the shipping if somebody was interested. Need to hear back from RhineWest first I just emailed them tonight.

Sheesh, and I thought 40 mpg was lousy.

I dialed back the settings when it started smelling gassy. I also rolled the "cruise" setting back because I was getting a weird momentary lag occasionally when cruising at 75 mph.
