Soft Side Cases
Beginning t think abut adding some side cases of the on/off soft variety.
I see Cortec, Nelsonrigg, Givi etc. Appreciate any comments, experience or warnings... thanks |
I have used the RKA old style bags on my R1100S and R1200S. Currently using the Nelson Rigg but find them a bit heavy and cumbersome. I would like to try the new RKA bags. Pretty basic design and attachment. The R1200S is difficult to get the bags set because of the width of the bike immedtiately behind the rider that tapers back to the tailight.

I like the Cortech. Sturdy front attachment to the foot pegs on the R12S. I need to rework the rear attachment as the underseat loops are not a good match for either the top bag only or the top/side combo, but the front is so good it almost doesn't matter. It's very much a "high and tight" look on the bike which gets numerous compliments. Of course, the bags match the bike color - black, the fastest color!

Nelson Rigg stuff is durable and pretty water proof. I still have a NR tail bag that holds lots of stuff, and is usually where I keep my laptop when traveling. I have also used the chase harper bags that are molded and found them to be too small. I gave my wolfman bags to my son, as they offer no protection from moisture at all, but they do pack nice and don't shift around.

Nelson Rigg is very well made and fits the R1100s nicely. Water tight and very secure in a real nasty storm at 70+ mph speeds. I anchored the tailbag at the rear with some zip ties and added a strap to the front of the saddlebags to stabilize them a little better. I had 60 pounds of clothes and crap in the three bags for a week long trip with my wife and they worked like a champ.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1365654975.jpg

another vote of confidence for the RKA bags
Had them for 6+years and they work great on rough roads and at high speed. No issues.

Regarding RKA or Nelson Riggs... or any other brand...
Do the bags scuff, rub, the rear body panels? Do you put them on/off, or mostly put them on and leave them on? |
2600 miles with the bags on, rain, wind and dust. Not one mark anywhere. Shop wisely on Amazon and you can find great deals on Nelson Rigg stuff. We took them off every time we got to a hotel, and left them off while we were out sight seeing.

Nelson Rigg
Yes, A++ on Nelson Rigg soft bags. Picked up a set at MotorcycleGear.com. Here is a link:
Luggage > Saddlebags :: MotorcycleGear.com Someone mentioned how they got zip ties to stabilize, I did something little different. Not sure what fender eliminator kit my S bike has but I ran to metal tie loops behind license frame wing nuts and ran a piece of black small diamter tube through the loops. With that extended a few inches beyond plate, I am able to secured the bags tightly. Between the Nelson Rigg and FEMSA tank bag, plenty of room for an 2-3 night ride on the S. Do have a Nelson Rigg tailbag for big trips with RT. Between side, top cases, plus tank bag, more than enough room. Really like the tailbag as that comes off everynight with clothing and toiletries and all other bags stay on big locked. In fact, picked up a Nelson Rigg tailbag for S bike on sale just incase a longer trip with S occurs. |
