Rear Shock Removal

Got the front removed in a few minutes, Rear is being a bit more difficult...

One hassle is the Remus pipes have to come off to get the lower bolt out, thats a work in progress...

My main concern is the top bolt does not want to budge at all. Nut is off, bolt takes great force to spin (felt like the bolt stetched/twisted, but not sure). I have relieved the weight from the shock and bolt still wont budge.
Any ideas on how to get that thing loose? Tried punching it out and not even a budge..

Matt

Try some PB penetrating oil & let it sit for awhile then attack it again. It should come out without causing any damage.

Good advice. Hopefully it's just corroded and you'll be able to punch it out. In the past, I do recall having used a wrench to have it unthread it out even though there are no threads. Some penetrating oil should help quite a bit.

PB did the trick. Still had to thread it out for a little bit before it slid out. Chewed a little of the mount up, but nothing bad.
I am going to replace the bolt just incase...

What is recommended to slop in their, once the shock gets back, to prevent this from happening again?

Now on to the exhaust... Remus race pipes are budging slowly, few more afternoons they should come off, and I will be able to curl a few hundred more #'s.. LOL

Re the pipes, take off the rear plastic surround at the back, raise the rear of the bike by rolling the bike onto anything that has the rear higher and the squirt any releasing agent on the mounting spigots and rubber gromits.

Assuming you've undone everything!!

Stand at the back of the bike and twist the can from side to side, only pull when it twists easy

Put some good copper or aluminum anti-seize on the shock bolts when going back together.

Well that was fun! Cans came off a lot easier once I sprayed pen on the upper guide things... I had just been spraying the pipe joints. Still required my friend the rubber mallet though..
One of the downpipes (inner/right) came off with the pipes, the other came off with a few twists...

Now the next fun part.. 3 of the 4 xpipe bolts are out.. Well 1 is out, 2 broke. The other doesn't want to budge, and is slightly rounded inside, not sure I will be able to get it out properly...
Going to hit Harbor Freight for a rotary tool, figure if I cut the head off I can shimmy it around and get the pipe off...

All this for a damn suspension bolt... Who the hell designed this thing?!?!

It's not design,it's a thing called maintainance and the only way to ever clean one of these things is strip it and people don't
