Missing shift up to 2nd: Occasionally

Shifting up to 2nd occasionally producing false neutral, not real neutral with the dash light illuminated, fixed by going at the shifter again. Just removed peg lowering kit after 8 years, so it may be technique. Not Sure, over to the brains trust...........

Technique and /or your shifter is too high. Try lowering it a quarter-inch.

And check to see whether the little rod with the ball joint at the ends is loose, bent or worn.

New boots!
(I say only as a half joke...)

thinner socks so your big toe can really feel what's going on.

Pre-loading the shifter helped me with the hitting neutral between 1st and 2nd on both of my R1100S's.

I usually ride in bare feet, it's hot over here!

well hell, that explains it!
you're out of balance. your feet are too light.

you need to wear a tank top and shorts to balance things out.
then fine-tune it all with one of those silly chopper guy helmets.
for safety reasons, consider sunglasses too.

if you make these adjustments, and ride for a while, the occasional missed shift will quickly diminish in importance on your list of problems.
