how long do you tires last?

I'm sure a thread or two deals with tires, but after 9000 miles and 4 tires, is that normal for r11s?

Oh and this has to be the one of the cleanest 2002 r1100s out there.

I used to get about 2500 out of pure sport tires, but switched to sport touring and got about 5000.

The D208s lasted about 3000 miles. The Michies about 5000. Of course riding with Schwartzy shortens that life considerably.

If you are always doing jack rabbit starts and run high speeds on straight roads it will kill tires, at least the center. It looks like you are using continentals...I have contis on my gs and at 6500 miles they look good.

I hope you where wearing gloves when you did this to that tire. Lol

Only the sides of the tires Tom. In AR we didn't use the center much. When you coming back?

Like Bill says, especially if you're mostly going in a straight line, get sport touring or touring tires for much longer life. I used Metzeler Z6 (now Z8 I think), and doubled my mileage over the stock Michelins.

Went through 3 sets of Bridgestone BT-016's in roughly 13k mi . Just mounted a set of the new S20's, so far so good

BTW... Love your SPG, I had an 85 and 90 SPG, 97 9000 Aero, and a 00 Viggen.

Awesome! If you haven't seen my Saab site, here you go.

Saabs by Paul Campagna

I got a black Viggen this year, to go with the Steel Gray Viggen I already had. You might as well say I collect them, as I have 4 Saabs now. The SPG is my favorite. It has been restored exactly the way I wanted it.

I'm still trying to get used to the bike for the most part. That and shoulder surgery this year keeps me out of the twisties, so that is why the middles are toast and the sides look new. These are very, VERY sticky tires, so the times I've used them in the rain, i was not sliding at all. I like that, compared with getting more miles out of a set.

Sport tires are only "sticky" when at the proper temperature, which is not as easy to do on the street unless you push them really hard. They only have so many heat cycles in them before they just go away. Sport touring tires reach their operating temps (become sticky) in the course of normal riding, and their chemical properties are more able to cope with many heat cycles.

the michelin pr2 rear lasted about 12000 km, the front about 16000km, the i have run a set of bt21 and only got 7000km out of a rear, and 11000 from a front, so the front is now a pr3, and the back will go pr3 when its due too.

i usually wear the centre strip of the tire out here, long straight roads with few curves

Tires

Are not center stands wonderful?

On my '04 R1100S, I run Road Pilots (moved up to 3s) but on the two sets of 2s, would go about 5K replacement but probably had another 2-3K left.

Why replace early? If it makes me think that tires will soon be needed, I have a tendency to overthink, be concerned in wet conditions, or not ride as hard.

So for the money and trust factor, get new ones.

Have 3s on the bike now but just about 1.5K and tires look new.

Had great success with Metzler on an '02 R1150RT and would get 5-7K.

There is a weird connection between older Saab model aficionados and BMW MC, especially the S models.

Must be we like to stand out from the crowd. My first was a used '74 EMS, never owned anything but a Saab since, but again working for a Saab Dealer for 20 years probably swayed my decisions. 9000 Aero seats were the best seats ever put in a standard production car IMHO.

ha, that's funny. My first was the 99ems. I think I say that on my site, but yeah, nver owned anything else sine and always had at least 3 for 20 years.

SPG got first place at import car show 2012. Attached photo of my newest Viggen I got this year. Only 109 black Viggens were made in 2001. I'll fix it up like the SPG for shows and such.

I love the Viggen seat, but I liked the Aero seats better in the SPG, so I managed to fit the set in, even the rear...
