OT: Rexxer tune at Redline Performance in VA
Well gang, I took the plunge last week and removed my ECU to send off to Redline Performance in VA. After reading so many good stories about how the Rexxer tune does wonders for the K motor, I felt that I should give it a shot.
Coming from a Honda Blackbird to the 06 K12R, the first thing I noticed was how rough the fuel injection felt, specifically at low speeds. It was really troublesome leaning into slow turns and I was even a victim of the bucking bronco on occasion. But as all K riders seem to attest, you learn to ride around it. This morning my ECU arrived back and I went ahead and re-installed it. I spent all afternoon on the bike and put over 100 miles on it since the new rexxer tune. All I can say is WOWOWOW! It truly feels like I am riding a different bike. It feels nearly as smooth and as good as (dare I say it) my Honda blackbird. And if you don't know anything about the blackbird, I can tell you it is probably the smoothest engine/fuel injection combo on planet earth. This tune has completely changed my K12R. From the moment I started the bike up, the idle is smoother, the bike sounds healthier all over and it is finally SMOOTH! Part throttle at low speeds is dramatically improved (probably 95% perfect) and there is NO flat spots anywhere in the rev range. Power has improved as well. Probably 7-10 RWHP and you can FEEL IT! It amazes me that BMW did not spend the time to get the tune on the K bikes like this. All the *****ing and moaning from people over the years would have been gone, if they had simply invested time in the fueling of there bikes! I am VERY happy with the results of this tune. I can't believe any K rider out there would not drop 300 to make there bike dam near perfect. It is the best money you can put into this machine easily. I hope everyone who has not done this mod, does. You WILL NOT regret it! |
you should realize that the biggest impact from the Rexxer tune comes from just disabling all the US mandated enviro crap that chokes the motor. Get rid of that stuff and dial in an AFR that makes power instead of low emissions and you are golden. It's not rocket science.

Yes but how would I dial in my A/F on that ECU myself? |
you wouldn't! don't misinterpret my comment, what I am saying is that the Rexxer ECU update does something that none of the modules will accomplish which is the deactivation of the enviro controls. That is the bigger part of the benefit you are feeling. I bet it idles better as well, that is because the enviro idle is very low, the rewrite takes it up enough to keep it happily humming along. I am a big Rexxer fan, and you went the smart way by just getting the rewrite rather than buying the unit.

As Dave from Redline told me. Besides the environment restriction, he also improved mid-range by re-tuning the A/F, he also remapped the timing so my quickshifter is now smoother. Rexxer is definitely the way to go.

Glad to hear of your positive experience. I too am stoked with my Rexxer results. I was shocked to learn how lean my bike was running.
Unlike Jeff I think the flexibility of the User unit is a great value. Not only can I perform some minor service functions but I can infinitely tune my ECU as I continue to make engine changes. I also received two maps with my purchase. If you have a bike that you never plan to tinker with and only want a one time remap sending Dave your ECU is more cost effective. It has been rainy a lot and I have been too busy to dyno my bike post Rexxer tune. I plan to share my measured results with the forum with my base Rexxer tune and my high performance map. Enjoy the ride, I share your sentiments with regard to the R1200S feeling like a different machine and being more pleasurable to ride. |
