Odyssey battery for R1100S

I've got an R1100S that I bought 6-7 years ago. It wasn't particularly well taken care of so I went through it and changed all of the oil everywhere and drained all of the brake fluid completely. I also replaced the battery with a BMW battery.

Well I've always had trouble with the ABS lights blinking and found out it was due to a low battery. The BMW is apparently a little marginal for the ABS system. So a BMW mechanic recommended the Odyssey battery to me and I finally got one and put it in Saturday.

Well it was too short and I had to puts some thick Shorai foam under it to make the battery strap hold it down firmly. Then the positive terminal was just about to hit the tank (sticks out a bit further than the BMW battery) so I had to orient it in a different position. Also the positive terminal had no plastic cover for it and the tank could drop down on it when you take out the bolts to lift it up to get to the battery. So I had to again stick some Shorai foam to the bottom of the tank to make sure it didn't hit.

So the BMW battery seems kind of marginal based on my experience and the Odyssey battery, while more powerful, didn't fit that great. Anyone got other suggestions? Folks may have had better luck with the BMW batteries than I but I've had a couple in and had problems.

Thanks Bmoore

Did you buy it by measuring the stock battery size or did Interstate have a chart that told you which one to get?

I just put a PC680 Odyssey in my 2001 w/abs a few weeks ago. It's a little thinner than the Westco it replaced, height and width were the same. Fit just fine.

Got mine off the net and just ordered it based on what they recommended for the bike. I didn't note the model number.

The battery was both shorter and narrower than stock.

I have the stock BMW battery from 2004 in my bike. Never had a problem with it other than that one time I left the parking lights on....

My battery is probably going to go dead in the next two days because I posted about it.

Psycho, the fact you ride your bike often is good for battery life, but the older they get the less warning you get when they die. That has been my experience. And good riding on hitting the deer...most people would go down...at least the damage looks repairable w/o too much. I hope the aluim. front structure is not tweeked.

Lol the front bracket is tweaked. I can easily ride it as is for the remainder of the fall and take my sweet time fixing in the winter.

Thanks for your experience on old battery failure!

I already had the BMW battery out and took it with me. I got 5 years out of the BMW before it crapped out. I think the battery charger is the ticket. Gets real cold here in the first months of the year.
