Which would you do?

Take 4 days and trailer down to Barber Motorsport and do a couple of track days or stop in North Carolina and do some exploring. Where in NC would you base your ride out of?

Tail of the Dragon, but that's only 11 miles long so add in Moonshiner Rt28, and also stop at Wheels through Time. But its gettin cold down there. I was there last week.

Asheville is a good place to set up camp. Centrally located to excellent riding and plenty to do when not in the saddle.

I prefer roads/scenery to track time. Though barber has a great museum with nice things to look at.

Stay away from coastal NC. I would rather have herpes than live in Wilmington again. I would be willing to wager that Wilmington has more stop lights per capita than any other city in America.

Charlotte is a close second.

What bike are you taking?

Take 2 weeks and do both. I would love to do barber, but it is so far away, and many say Calabogie is as good or better and it is only 5 hrs. away.

As far as NC, I got you covered, I have a link to my Google map file of all the good roads I have ridden, it includes all the ones I found for the NC natives :D

I already scoped out some more to explore next spring.

Better yet come down for the annual Pelican spring get together, last of April, first of May

Well, that is what I was after when I made this post. It is one thing to say you're going to ride around NC, but another thing to know where to ride.

Currently, it's just X-Triple and I going, but if anyone else wants to join in, feel free to throw your name in.

When??? I know a least a couple NC guys that hate riding ............................(less than 40K/year that is)

PM with link on the way.

Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Cruso, NC. Just off the BRP on US 276. Waynesville is right down the hill if you need a town for meals and beer. Pisgah Campgrounds may still be open and the Pisgah Inn is a nice place to stay if you don't wanna camp.

I vote Barber. The museum is fantastic and is constantly renovated with goodies. The track is fantastic and the cork screw is something to recon with. Driving to Barber is also filled with scenery and there is a nice mall close for the missus.

We are likely driving out of New England Thursday (11/21) afternoon and hopefully setting up shop on Friday. Driving home Sunday night or Monday morning.

You have been in my state. Lol. I will say as far as motorcycling, I would not want to ride any coastal area from Maine to Miami. BUT...if you start below Miami...as in key largo...and ride south from there...it's good for a while.

Going to be cold on a naked bike, 40-60 highs, 25-35 lows might want to bring the GS

That said, let me look at my schedule, maybe I can join you, I would probably show up earlier, 3 days is not enough, if I am traveling that far.

WTF! I think I broke the weather along the east coast with my bike purchase. Even if we hoofed it all the way south to Barber, it isn't much warmer.

You could be lucky, last year when I went to pick up the F8GS in Bristol VA, it was in the 70's, still cool at night but not bad.

Got grebings??

slowrider - you are more than welcome to take my Gebrings setup. It should fit you.

Track for sure.

slowrider 11-04-2013 05:07 PM

I spoke to PPFOG and X-Triple today, and I think this trip is off.

The timing isn't quite right and the weather outlook is poor enough to discourage us from driving that distance for temps barely warmer than in our backyard.

I was leaning toward going to Barber, but the track event organizer doesn't allow for any coolant, so I'd have to put in distilled water and worry about near freezing temps at night and an open trailer. Just kind of tipped the scales for me.
