I did ride it today, and dont forget my bike doesnt have stock suspension, it had been lowered dramatically by the PO.

But can you REALLY tell the difference??

I don't think I will be able to tell the difference, doing circles in the garage.....

Ohlins

Until I got Ohlins on my bike, I wasn't sure if there would be that much difference. Wait till you really try it, you will be glad you did. The faster you go, the better it gets!

i snagged my 04 boxer cup rep in a "bit of a hurry".
liked the looks, familiar with testing bmw's, ran down to dealer to jump on his demo bike, just to refresh my opinions before buying.
grabbed some yellow r11s, went for 20 minutes, parked it, went inside and gave them the nod to grab me a bcr.

when i picked my bike up it was dark and i believe, drizzling out.
on the ride home i'm convinced the guys in the shop screwed with the suspension settings as a joke.
get home, garage, and there's black showa shocks on my bike.
the demo bike had ohlins (it was a trade in).
grab brochure. read specs. do giant face palm.

denying defeat, call yamaha connection to see if i can get springs and valving.
they don't use that model. "it's below level", i'm told. Fancy term for "not good enough for us."

great.
call ohlins guy.
wander through the "build your own" buffet.
pick shims, adopt washers, select spring stacks, choose clickey things, squirt nitrogen, etc...

love the suspension.
still go "grrrrrrr" because the bike should have come that way in the first place.

Ha! Well, looking at the spec sheet for my 2000, it specifically said Ohlins shocks. But no... apparently BMW cheaped out...

Oh well, Ohlins are not critical for me.

Someone on this forum recommended ProPilotSuspension.com who I believe are the largest Ohlins supplier in the US. Dealt with Jim over there. He was about 500-600 bucks under MSRP I think. They are out of NJ. Theres no sales tax in Oregon where I live, so with free shipping it really was $1712.00.

If you don't feel the difference you should be riding a Honda Trail 50.

See how that one the diff is inline with the swingarm, and yours is angled like a regular S..
Might just be the angle, but worth checking IMO... 365mm is what stock would be, 385 is what regular S would be.

Otherwise, very beautiful bike! I love seeing that gold peaking through on mine

Thanks I will measure it. The ride height has not been set either so I will do both. Any idea where I would get a new arm if needed?

The rear is fully agjustable and so has a huge range in length. It goes beyond the 05 length spec. Best to call Jim over there as he's done this with many BCRs.
