newbie intro
Hello, I'm a 60 year old 1100s Prep rider. I live in Atlanta, but my bike, "Stella" is garaged and ridden out of Murphy, NC, where my wife and I have a cabin, which we visit almost every other weekend. Western NC, eastern Tennessee and north GA are my stomping grounds where I ride year round. Pretty much a lone wolf rider, but I love the moto-culture and enjoy striking up conversations with our brothers and sisters when pausing for gas or stretching. I've stalked here for a while and figure it's about time to man up and join in. The ride reports y'all give are a great way for me to extend my little geography and I hope to reciprocate soon. Jesse

Hello and welcome. It is good to have another here that likes to give names to their bikes/cars/tools etc.

Welcome Knee, and yes, you will have fun on the forum which continues to provide information about all things related to recent R bikes. I love the area you speak of and ride mostly south or you in the areas of Suches, Morganton, Clayton, Ducktown, Robbinsville, and anywhere else where the roads are remote and the pavement is reasonable. The R11S units like yours fair well in the region and I hope to see you there at some point. Join us all at the GMR in Hiawassee this coming May, for even though the rally is under new leadership and has slipped several notches..........the roads and brothers are still the same, with good clean sport riding being a common goal among many.
Great to have another new member among us. |
Welcome Knee, My brother lives in Hiawassee. He rides a R12R. Also have a friend who lives in Hayesville. He rides a R12GS They are both retired and all they do is ride. I think Lloyd's 2010 R12GS has close to 110K. tjs

Thanks for the welcomes. Twodear, I figure if boats need names, so do motorcycles. "Stella" got hers one January when I tossed her down the road going around a freeway exit, not paying attention. I wandered over some small gravel close to the centerline and jerked the handlebars, a lowside resulted. Anyway, as she was traveling down the road on her right jug, me following on my butt until she took a 90 degree into the guardrail, and you know how these things happen in slow motion, all I could think about was that scene in " A Streetcar Named Desire" when Marlon Brando was calling out in agony for Stella. Strange how the mind works

Funny story; those are referred to as Autumn Leaves down here (they fall down you know) - I'm glad it all came out okay in the end.

Welcome...Young man. We moved to Ducktown a year ago last October. The roads are outstanding and Curve above outlined my favorites perfectly.

Welcome Knee, from the West.

The areas you described are the places I typically ride when I get a chance to head north. You are no longer a lone wolf, welcome to the wolf pack! BTW - do you rent the cabin? :D |
Knee, welcome from another noob with a BCR I bought here a few weeks ago. Dean, hello and yes this 77 year old nut just bought an '05 BCR. Time for lunch when it warms up.

Again, thanks for the welcome. Marty, 77, that's interesting! Validation that we are as young as we act, or at least once, as that Alan Jackson country song goes.
