R12S mandatories for new owner

Hi there guys,
I'm a new member but have looked at the collective wisdom a couple of times on the site with great appreciation to the knowledge and experience.
I have a R12S for 4 months and am about to go for Remus headers and a an Akrapovic slip on as an upgrade from OE stock. Your thoughts on this combo and was told stainless steel was only 800gm heavier than Titanium and would be fine by the Remus guys.
Any thoughts about that. Bike has done 55Kms and goes OK but keen to get a smoother throttle response without the flat spots pre 4000rpm. Have ordered a booster plug but have heard Rexxer spoken of with some enthusiasm? Are there any other newby mandatories for general improvement I should be installing. I'm running a 6 inch rear with 190 Racetec K3 Metzelers and find them to be very confidence building. I replaced plugs to single element NKG from the twin Bosch that was in it. Has Ohlins, ABS etc,

Any advice from you guys will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Sounds like you're on the right track, although there are no mandatories.
Whatever you do, don't expect miracles. The bike is actually very efficient.
Every rider's preference is different. The Remus headers were considered a helpful key at one point.

Install the Booster Plug and go ride it, just don't hit any Wombats!

Cheers

Thanks guys for your response. Do you have an opinion regarding Titanium over stainless steel headers ?
Seems negligible weight difference (if what was quoted is correct) for just touring around?

Titanium looks cool (IMHO) after it turns blue, especially on an all black bike like mine! Not sure about price differences these days. Ti used to be a lot more expensive. I don't worry about grams or even pounds as I could easily shed way more pounds by losing my gut ;-)

When you need a battery replace the standard unit with a Shorai. The weight savings is ridiculous.

You are welcome. Another item I just remembered is to be wary of your rear brake. The factory gave us a cheap bushing that wears quickly and reduces brake effectiveness. There is a retrofit bearing kit available that solves the problem.

Enjoy the R1200S, she is a fun machine.

Cheers & thanks for the rear brake tip … almost non existent was my take on it initially. I have read where bleeding can help a little but your retrofit bearing kit sounds like the way to go. Is that aftermarket or Wunderlich type provider ? or did BMW provide thereat brake fix?

The rear brake fix is not a readily available part. Not available in general stores.

It was sourced and distributed by Roger Albert (moderator).
Send him an email or pm. Or, place a wanted to buy ad in the for sale forum here. Someone may have one they never installed.

The kit is great (from one that has it installed). It makes the rear brake useful.

Sorry for the late response. When I purchased my used R1200S she had already been updated.

If you search for a thread entitled "Rear brake is crap!" you should be able to find more details regarding this fix.
