Mounting GPS Options On R1200S

Hi All,

I would like to ask my peers on this board of trick ways to mount their GPS on their R1200S? I just picked up a Zumo 660 and looking for some great ideas.

Thanks,
-X

I really liked the techmount. TECHMOUNT - Products

You'll need this too. http://www.techmounts.com/products/?page_function=detail&product_id=179

I drilled and tapped the inner end of my Heli bars, then installed a Ram ball mount. The GPS mount attaches to that with a short Ram arm.

Cheers

I never found an easy way to do it on that bike.
Ztechnik mount.

Hi AZ,

This looks great. Could I get a side picture of the assembly you have chosen? Do you have a model number I can reference?

Thanks,

Although AZ-J's actual mount might be great I myself would extend the unit higher so that you can look at the GPS without your head being pointed right down.

Mine was the second picture down:

The most elegant way is the BMW mount and cradle as shown in the referenced thread above. That's the way I had it. I had a Motorrad IV in it.

You need this piece:

National Cycle: Products: My Order

And below it shows a mate-plates, you need to pick one for the Zumo. It is easy.

this piece: http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/Z6032?mv_session_id=T6CbByyL&search_model=all%2d00 3""

It screws on the clutch handlebar assembly, adjusts and tighten up.

Wrong. Not even close. Not even in the same Universe. Coping is flattery. This is true. When Droptarotter copies your idea its like Davinci tipping his hat. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

HP2 GPS Mount

I don't know if the 1200S is the same under the Roundel, but here is the mount I made for my HP2 Sport. I will vote that it is elegant. I made a stepped disc that fit the dimensions of the triple clamp and it will be attached by some sort of epoxy. There is a threaded hole in the center and the disc can be removed by using a longer bolt and pushing it off the ball joint.
So the final design is very simple, will work with the Techmounts GPS mount, Go Pro camera mount and their radar detector mount, It will also work with a RAM ball for those who want to go that route. There is a rubber band visible, which is only temporary for the photo. I didn’t want to secure the disc yet until after I get it anodized to match the triple clamp. Next week after the test drive, I will have to see if an angle block is necessary to give the GPS screen more sun protection for visibility.

Word!

The nice thing about LCP's install is that when you remove the arm/unit, you barely notice the remaining ball.

Drill both bars for an 8mm bolt while you are at it and mount the radar detector on the other side.

Cheers

Thanks so much AZ and all; great options and ideas. I think i will go the AZ route of copying.

:)

Peter, you are wrong. When you remove the Z-Technik mount, you trade two screws for the one the mount came with.

Not the best photo's but I mounted the GPS to the Tank-bag and electrified the bag and mounted the Radar detector inside the map pocket

Cool Szazbo! I do like the roundel though, did you ever think of attaching something to the fork cap? They are so low function that you could probably carve out the whole cap and design the mount straight in, rather than adapt. I did this with my R12S and I thought it was a good location.

For my HP2S I would rather have an iphone mount on the fork cap with a power source.. That would have a whole lot of function!

AZ-J 05-18-2014 11:41 AM

But an iPhone is not waterproof. A little rain can ruin it.

My 660 is waterproof at least 6'. I know because it fell in my pool once. It still worked!

AZ-J 05-18-2014 11:44 AM

Also shredder. You could have mounted using the Z-Technik mount on the two screws holding the clutch mount. That would require using the two longer screws that come with the mount, and saving the shorter screws to replace it.

J.Rose 05-19-2014 04:23 AM

It doesn't get much easier than this, and you can choose the left or right. Fairing clearance might be an issue though.

I've got a Ram Ball mount setup that screws into to the bar end:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...y/IMG_0121.jpg

It attaches to an arm like this:

You'd still need the Garmin specific mount for your Zummo. It may not be gay enough for you, but you are welcome to it.
