Gadget mount for R1100S

Hey folks! I'm looking for the best way to mount my iPhone for GPS navigation, specifically for the R1100S (I know there's a discussion out there for the R12). I'm interested to hear what system anyone else has used for their 11S.

Since there are many options out there for products that actually house the iPhone, I don't want to limit the question too much by saying it is iPhone-specific. I figure if I find the best mounting system for ANY device, I can then work to find what could safely secure my iPhone to that system (unless I'm lucky enough to find the optimal system that already has an iPhone enclosure).

I've done a fair amount of searching on the forum and think I'm safe in saying there isn't a thread out there on the subject, but if I missed one, I apologize.

Mount

RAM mounts are excellent as they go from bike to bike and if you have mupltiple bikes you own and ride, gadgets are interchanable.

Just the other day I rigged a GPS on a '73 Triumph Tiger using a box full of RAM parts for a 200 mile day trip to a Brit Motorcycle Rally.

Another link for RAM mounts and people with experience are :

Garmin GPS, XM, Sirius, Magellan GPS, Lowrance GPS, TomTom GPS, MIO GPS & RAM GPS Mount Authorized Dealer at MountGuys.com

Have used both links and people are experienced.

Best,
Nathan

Thanks for the feedback.

Is the best choice for the RAM system the brake/clutch reservoir? Any one of them in particular?

i use both reservoir covers:

clutch reservoir for non-essential things you're going to play with while riding (phone, gps, etc).

throttle reservoir for important things you need to know (radar detector mostly....having it close to the throttle makes sense to me).

Ram mounts are great and I use them on other bikes. Where to mount a gps on the r11s? I had below the triple clamp bars that I moved above, so I just used the holes and made a plate. Here I have my gps mounted. If you can't do that then yes ram mount is the way to go.

Also look on ebay for the iPhone waterproof bicycle mount case. It's a great case, you just need to change the back plate to fit on a ram mount. You can find the same case at a place like twisted throttle pre modified, but ebay and some DIY will save you $40.

I have a RAM mount on the steering plate. I think the previous owner (my friend) had it specially made but don't think it was expensive. It's been used for sat navs and mounting a GoPro on trackdays. I don't have a great picture of it and I'm not by the bike now but you can just about make it out here, it's mounted above the left fork:

Now I use a waterproof GIVI back which straps to the steering plate for my car satnav and that works great too. This is the bag I use:

you can use the clutch and brake reservoir covers from ram, along with very short ram arms, to achieve a result like this one: gps on the left, radar on the right, room to sail over the bars if called for.

Finally got around to mounting the GPS to my S after 14 years. Used velcro on the top triple clamp for a year but the angle was wrong. Bought a Ram mount that uses the bolt hole on the bottom of the triple clamp. Plenty of clearance and now the angle is adjustable.
