Well, I bought it - ('03 r11s)

I have no idea what this thing is but I think its a boxer prep. It has no ABS or heated grips, actually it looks like a stripped down bike. It has some kind of race rubber on it and I also noticed a staintune plate above the mufflers so its fitted with one of those systems. I also noticed it only has 15000 and change for miles on it. It's been sitting in a warehouse for almost a year about 20 feet from a mound of cement which is almost like silt, hence the filthy appearance. It's actually relatively damage free however, so it'll make for a good candidate for some of my attention. If you'll check my prior posts where I listed my r12s - You'll see I'm afflicted with a sickness that goes beyond OCD - This machine will likewise be cherried over a period of time. That braided rear brake line doesn't look too good which is where I'll start. Not that I'll see any profit on my effort. I bought it to enjoy, not sell. My reward is a job well done and that's good enough for me. Anyhow, I didn't see the owner as he's overseas and gave his brother the okay to sell the bike - I took it for a spin and was delightfully surprised at how strong it runs so I thought what the heck, I'll offer some ridiculously low number (even though I was told $3850) and see what he counters with - evidently anything over $2500 was the magic number as I offered $2600 and bro said I squeaked in by 100. Brother told me he was moving the bike around the warehouse and somehow slipped and dropped it on its valve cover which is why they've been powder painted black. I also inquired on the odd, anthracite coloured wheels and was told the owner had them painted when he bought the bike for reasons unknown. Here are some photos. I think it was a pretty darned good buy at $2600. What do you folks think?

regards,
J.S.

Jozef,

That looks like a LOT of bike for $2600, so well done and good luck with your cleaning her up...:-)
You maybe have Carbon body panels under that paint to, going by the bit next to the air intake tubes...

Is that a 2-in-2 exhaust and Laser cans as well? The yellow springs on the shocks says it's a 'sport' model (taller suspension) and the short torque arm below the shaft matches that too. It should also have a wider 180 rear wheel. Looks like you got a good deal.

If you put the VIN in here you'll see what it originally came with from the factory: BMW Model Archive · BMW VIN Decoder · bmwarchive.org

Incredible price!
I think I would have a hard time letting my 99 with 95k go for that price, once its stock again.

Eliz lake huh? Lancaster native here, ridden by your area a FEW times.
Enjoy the new machine!

Thanks folks. It'll be fun and I'll have something to do with my time now that I've overcome a recent major (triple bypass) hurdle. I've looked via 'search' and cannot find anything referring to dash button functions and warning lamps - i.e. low fuel level, charging, etc. I feel like a proper tool since I could probably figure it out using the kid-playing-with-buttons method... but, If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.

best

Hope the police don't show up. At that price some people might think you stole it. Good find.

Congrats on a great find, and congrats on the major hurdle too! (I had a quintuple 16 years ago this month)

Clean that Prep up and go riding, it's good therapy!

Cheers!

Shuman, I just had an aortic valve replaced and two bypasses in late March. (I got them to replace the timing belt and a new front seal while they were in there !) the new heart will probably outlast the rest of me. Better to have this kind of thing behind you, successfully, than to have it in front of you. Been riding my 11S again (and the airhead) for about a month now.

You appear to have scored a great deal on the bike. Enjoy

SeabeckS & bobross - as you both very well know, these matters are about as serious as it gets and yes, I'm certainly glad its behind me. Now, if only I didn't have to gulp these darned pills every day. Amlodopine, Carvedilol, Lisinopril, Crestor, Aspirin. I don't take to drugs very well and would truly be delighted if there were effective homeopathic alternatives, and I agree there's little that equals the therapeutic benefits - on many levels - of taking a bike for a spin. But I digress;

I suppose I should order an owner's manual from max or SJ since nobody's chimed in describing the functions of those little buttons on the dash.

Oh, and which repair manual. Haynes, Clymer...or?

Thanks fellas

J.S.

Bob and Josef, maybe we should start a special club, NMHS Riders (No More
Heart Surgery Riders)?

Best of luck to you both!

Cheers!

PS. Josef, sorry the drugs are difficult for you...luckily for me that the 7 Rx's and multitude of supplements work fine. Some of the supplements were recommended by a naturopathic doc 15 years ago...

Jozef,

Re the dash... Not much to play with on the 11S, The push knob between the guages zeros the one an only trip meter, the to rubber push points below the clock set the clock time, use a ball point pen, push into the rubber pad, hold, an it will go into time adjust mode, H for hours, M for the minutes, the low fuel warning is a little green light on the lower part of the tacho dial, when it comes on you have about a gallon of fuel left in the tank, no ABS so no lights there to worry about, indicators, lights for each direction an mine self cancel after a few moments of travel, Im on a 04, cant recall if the earlier ones were same, High beam warning light, oil light, battery light, cant think of much else to cover... Any questions fire away, i shall try to answer... :-)

Looks like there's a PDF owner's manual on eBay for $7.60:
BMW Owners Manual R 1100 s EVO R 1150 R R 1150 RT 2001 96 Pgs | eBay

I think the owner's manual and the repair manual was floating around here in PDF form as well. Wait a day or two and someone might have it. You might want to start a thread so someone who has either will see your request in the thread title.

Jeremy, thanks heaps! I figured there wasn't much to bugger up and since I'm going to go pick up the bike and ride it home tomorrow, I just wanted to make certain. I ended up ordering an owners/riders manual from Max for 30 some odd bucks but that'll be a while before I have it I'm sure.

best,
J.S.

Steve,
How the heck did you find that? I was just there looking for one! As I mentioned to Jeremy, I have a hard copy coming from Max but for 8 bucks - I'll get this one to peruse in the meanwhile. Thanks a heap guys.
