Go pro sessions

I lost my Go Pro Hero 3 earlier this year and am planing to get a new one.
I have read a lot of Pros and Cons on the new Go Pro Session. So much so that I am hesitant on getting this one or the little Sony one that is its direct rival.
Anybody got one of these that can comment real world experience.

i woke up my drone flying monkey that lives/breathes these things.
he mumbled:
"the session is waterproof all on it's own.
fewer buttons, just turn on or off, easier to operate, its like a point and click camera.

"for the same price the Hero4 Silver is a much better camera with higher resolution and better low light. get the silver. it's the better value."

he sent me this link that shows some great image comparisons between the hero plus lcd, the session and the silver:
Action camera shootout: Which GoPro is best for you?

this guy is a go pro addict (mostly quad drones, but also does hard mount shoots).
he lives & breathes this stuff.
he's almost as bad as we are with bikes.
almost.

Interesting that you brought this up. I was all set to buy a GoPro until I became confused between the Hero4 Black, Hero4 Silver, The Session, and all the varieties.

I've tried to figure out why a basic GoPro Black goes for $499
But a GoPro Black Moto edition goes for $399.

Yes Craig, I'm with you. I asked my kids and they just shrugged and directed me to youtube

I'm ready to pull the trigger on one and after talking to a pal whose kids fool with these things I was told to buy this IOGEAR gizmo which evidently allows one to to run their GoPro for hours on end without worrying about battery life:

Amazon.com: IOGEAR GearPower 12,000mAh Ultra Capacity Mobile Power Station for Smartphones/Tablets/Mobile Devices, White GMP12K: Cell Phones & Accessories

What I'd like to know is what mic options are available. I would like to be able to run a mic with a lead somewhere towards the rear of the bikes so I can get good exhaust audio. I can always edit volume and background music in...

The hot set up a few years ago was a Sony ecm ds70p, I have one I have used and it worked well. You do have to secure the cable well, as if it bangs around in the wind, it sounds like a thumping on the vid.

the sony doesn't have a mic jack.
i used to have problems with a mic at the back of the bike.
the zipper tabs on my wunderlich bag made too much noise.
so did the spring on the sidestand when the road was bumpy.

here's a video we shot years ago.
the bike is coasting on LaTuna canyon, a one-way road. surface was wet at the time.
you might NOT want to hear all the noises a bike makes that are normally covered up by exhaust sounds.
(noises get more pronounced at about the 1 minute mark).

ps: we don't use audio when shooting with the drones. nothing to hear but 4 blades spinning around.

Thanks for the vid and info, Brad.

Gee, see - being ignorant to GoPro's or any of these small camera's I had no idea.

yep, I figured you'd have no need for audio on a drone, just thought the guy might have some pointers if, by chance he used 'em for other purposes requiring a mic.

all i ever did for mine was stuff the mic into a piece of green foam to keep the wind noise down.

the mic went into the rear tailpiece...not sticking out in the wind, but mostly flat, pointing rearward.

I record with the gopro mounted on the windscreen, full closed back on. Great exhaust sound from my Ztechnik Ti system, and no 'other' noises. I can hear myself yell/scream when it happens, like when i come around a corner on track and some kook is putting along well off pace, yet on line....I have the silver version gopro, the high resolution video is awesome!
I passed up the Session after a little web research.
