Boxer Cup bellypan removal

I've got a BCR R1100S and I'm going to change the oil, but first need to remove the belly pan. The rear is affixed with two pretty straightforward-looking allen bolts. The front is attached to a mounting bracket which is then attached to the motor.
I'm wondering if I should take the bellypan off the bracket or the bracket off the motor.

If I should take the bellypan off the bracket, can anyone tell me how to disconnect the funky looking clips that attach the bellypan to the bracket?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm notoriously bad at making these kind choices and then always seem to end up turning a simple job in a complete mess.
