Ordering Spiegler Lines - Some Advice, Please
'Just spoke with a fellow at Spiegler who said over 'n over again that they would not guarantee the fitment of lines because I'm removing the ABS.
I told him to just pretend that I don't have ABS and go from there. He balked again and again. Should I just order lines as if I don't have ABS? I know to order 2" longer front line from MC to wheel to accommodate bar risers. Just wanting to avoid drudgery, etc. Thanks. |

Also consider if you have the late (2005?) BCR forks. I believe they were GS length (longer). If you have 365mm paralever (shorter) link in the back, you need to consider that too for the rear line. If you have the stock 385mm length, the line will be shorter. Hope this isn't confusing.

hmmm...what risers are you using?

Measure and give them the lengths. You can change to superbike if you want or keep it as is. Also check how the banjo connects and check their site so you can let them know. I think on their site they have a custom lengths section that you can follow.
I had to do the same thing on one of my race bikes when I swapped out the fronts. Easy peasy |

:) . BTW, it's the '99 with abs...BMW high bars w/Randy's bar risers. Soon to be w/o abs. |

I'd call Tom Cutter at the Rubber Chicken Racing garage. He's a Speigler dealer, a long-time BMW mech, and an R1100S owner. He probably knows more than any human on this earth about your question.

Make your own lines
It's very easy. You can do cut them with a hacksaw if needed although I use and air compressor and cut off tool.
You can find some pictures and directions online. There is one trick though. For the first end you do, you can screw the nut onto the fitting. For the second, in order to avoid twisting the line, screw the fitting into the nut. I.e. turn the fitting while holding the nut with a wrench. I usually stick a large diameter chisel through the banjo and I've never buggered one up. However, a piece of plastic is better. You can buy a 3/8" piece from online metals. Buy some hose and fittings. It will be cheaper and from now on you'll be able to do anything you want to do! |
Mr Schumann had Galfer build him a set for his R1100S, I phoned them and they sent me the same set with the front hose at 20.5 ". 3 lines for the front and 1 line for the rear that eliminates the solid pipe. Fit perfectly. I think the part number is D218-4

I ordered a set of Spiegler lines without realizing I had Suburban bar risers. I ordered the stock (non-ABS) length. If I were to do it again, I would get them an inch or two longer, but it's not terribly tight even at full front fork extension. Not enough to make me worry, much less replace them. I'd say 2" longer than stock is fine, if you are deleting ABS.

Ps
If you build your own at some point, it's a good idea to put clear shrink wrap over the lines to keep the steel braid from rubbing the finish off anything they come into contact with.
