Superbike/Superstock tragedy at Laguna Seca
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca: Two Riders Killed In Superbike Race
I don't have much in the way of verified details, just fuzzy video. Something went horribly wrong at the start of the race. Bernat Martinez, of Alberic, Valencia, Spain, was transported from the raceway by ambulance to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) in Monterey, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was 35. Daniel Rivas Fernandez, of Moana Galicia, Spain, was transported by REACH Medical Air Services to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, where he also succumbed to injuries. He was 27. Race in Peace.

F! Terrible news for everyone...family & friends, fellow racers, the track, the race series, the spectators, motorcycling in general, and even casual fans such as myself. Makes you realize what a slender thread it is that attaches us to life.
RIP, indeed.

I saw two or three videos of the accident from the font and back and boy did that accident hit me hard. I was really impressed. First rider falls and boom he's dead just like that. Terrible. God Speed to all riders.

Saw a rider take a hit after he came off his bike on the main straight at SIR in Kent, WA back in the 90's. Instantaneous end to his young life...sort of lost interest in attending races after that.
Sincere condolences to the family and friends of both riders. |
