Woe is my 2001 R1100s - Clutch Slave
Well I hate for this to be my inaugural post but here it is. I'm retired and bought a 2001 R1100s with 27k on it for my son. I figured I'd wrench on it a bit to get it ready for him and started out changing all the fluids, plugs and put on new brakes. So I got to bleeding the clutch slave and read that it might be loctited ( and it was) so I began to heat it with a heat gun. It remained stuck so I heated it a little more and low and behold it melted the hydraulic line where it enters the bleed fitting and the fitting came right off the line. yikes
Now I have no idea where or how I can reattach the fitting to the hydraulic line or if I have to buy a new line and dig all the way into the bike to get at the clutch slave cylinder to attach a new line. You guys seem brilliant on these bikes so I thought I'd try and start here, begging for a little knowledge. Thx in advance. |

You might need to replace the vent screw part #32 72 2 333 158
MAX BMW Motorcycles - BMW Parts & Technical Diagrams - R1100S (259S) I've managed to strip the clutch and front brake caliper vent screws, getting the old one off is the worst part. Hope this helps, Doug

The end actually cam totally off the hydraulic line ( clutch vent line). So I either need to buy a whole new line for $125 or have to figure out how to reattach the end to that vent line. I've never tried to repair a hydraulic line fitting before and don't know what it takes. The $125 for 12 inches of hydraulic line and 2 fittings seems absurd.

Beemerboneyard, ibmwr.com, ebay, places to search for used goodies. No need to pay insane new prices if you can get it used & in good shape.

Worst case is have a local shop make a SS one for much less than OEM and have a regular bleed nipple at the end. Still would have to root around with the wheel off but...

I searched ebay and there are R1150 lines there but the part number for the R1100s ends in a 9 while the R1150 ends in a 5. So I'm not sure how different they are. Beemer Boneyard shows out of stock on the vent line. Checking the local independent shop to see if they'll make one up is also something I'll try today. Looks like I need to just remove the rear wheel and ? Top or bottom shock mount?
If anyone does have one they'd like to sell, I'd appreciate that. Thx |

Got off the phone with BMW and there are none of those in the USA. There are R1150RT clutch vent lines in the country but those are $158. Even crazier and since the last 2 digits of the part number are different I'm not sure it would work.
Talked to the major independent shop in Seattle but he said they can't be repaired and he doesn't make up lines. Any ideas for what sort of shop I might go to to make up a line? |

Google is your friend. In a big town like Seattle there has to be a shop that makes hydraulic lines. There is here in stump town 186 miles south.
Try here http://www.americanhose.com/inventory/index.php or http://www.rechargeman.com/Brakes.html Last edited by wiggledbits; 06-02-2015 at 08:55 AM.. |

Easiest - get a used one from Brentw1 Next: give Spiegler a call - I've always found them very helpful. Good luck. |

Spiegler is great to deal with. Just be specific and you will get what you need. While at it maybe get new brake lines from them - and if you intend to use Rapid Dog bar risers get them longer.

I wonder if you could take the vent line off and install regular bleeder screw at the slave cylinder? Anybody tried it?

Thx for the Rechargeman reference. I called him and he works out of his house but said that even if he didn't have a new 6mm banjo fitting that he could likely reuse the old ones. I'm headed there tomorrow morning.
Thx also for the eBay reference. I don't know how I missed that when I looked. That's backup. I'll let you all know what happens with the Rechargeman fabrication tomorrow! |

If you go custom just be sure the bleed end had a union that'll fit a bleed nipple.

Both holes in the slave are threaded but nothing there for a bleeder to seal against.
