$2200!!!!!!!! $500!!!!!!!!
just saw a listing on a dealer site pushing the boxer cup replica engine spoiler...they have it listed at $2,195. if this is true, then just as i thought bmw is sadly over-inflating the rpice for this peice, rather than selling a boatload of them at a reasonable price. i like spending money on the bike, but that just takes the cake. i wonder if this dealer is jacking up the price or if that is msrp? also the carbonf fiber head covers are $500. i am less surprised at that price. anyone else know what the real deal is here?

My dealer Carolina BMW just got one in and the retail price was 2200.00, I thing they will have a tough time selling it for that! I just ordered one from Boxer Deesign for 300.00 including shipping. It want be painted blue but ohwell, for 1900.00 I will do something.

chin fairing
Dave, the BMW is mostly fiberglass with a strip 12 inches wide down the center of the bottom that is carbon fiber. It is 70% just plain fiberglass. Has nice decals though.

BELLY PAN
There taking the piss big time.£190 boxer design, paint it yours self £20.I would recommend putting some heat reflecting foil where the headers run close to the belly pan,as some of the boxercup bikes had scorch marks.I am ready to install mine as soon as i finish painting flaking and stone chipped sump.I also want to fit laser cat eliminator but i cant afford it at the moment.New boots, footpegs and stainless steel bar ends to buy first!

I bought the boxer design lower and painted it.
It looks great and the cost was worth it. My only complaint is the slight charring around the pipe sections and pebble chips to the front section. Anyone have suggestions on how to protect the lower front from paint chips?? Regards, Marc

Use stone chip paint on the lower front section. You should be able to get it colour matched and put in to a standard aerosol can from a auto paint supplier.I put heat reflective foil on the inside where ever exhaust headers run close.I have yet to test this, but it should do the trick.

BMW Marc...goto www.pacificautotrim.com. Email Lucas and he'll make you a custom, clear, 3M sheet that you can adhere to the front of your belly pan. If you send him a drawing he can make you a perfectly cut piece to match it.
It doesn't surprise me that the part is so expensive though. BMW cant be worried about profits lost on overpricing such a part, instead they just want to keep from seeing every S bike on the road as a "replica" of their "exclusive" bike. Plus by Summer I'd expect someone to get the cheaper belly pan and use it as a model to build a real carbon one. Cant be too tough. |

Is there a functional purpose for the engine chin spoiler for street use on the S, or is it the equivalent of the "whale tails" we see kids tack on to the street Civics and Acuras?

About the only thing the older chin spoiler that came with my S bike does it keep the front of the engine from getting chipped up. Other than that, nothing much.

belly pan
No real advantage gained apart from tidy up of engine and maybe a little more weather protection.I think it has to be used for racing as an oil encatchment tray?I am not 100% sure on that though, maybe somebody can verify me right or wrong?I have always liked belly pans on bikes, and saved up long and hard to get one for my RD350LC many years ago.

It does not go under the engine. works with the centerstand which the Boxer Cup piece or the one from BoxerDesign.com will not. Also does not get in the way of checking or changing oil. I have it and think it improved the look of the bike a bunch but no functional use other than protecting the engine from rock chips. There is a route thru the mountains here in Washington that I try to do annually that involves a few miles of gravel, last year on my previous "s" the engine looked a little "sandblasted". This year, new bike with lower spoiler I duct taped the front of the spoiler at the start of that road and whipped it off at the next gas stop.

belly pan/chin spoiler
Hi dave
What spoiler do you have? My boxer design spoiler is ready for fitting now. However i have yet to finish repainting bottom of engine due to corrosion caused by stone/gravel chips. Not at all helped by the nice salt cocktail our highways agency put down every winter! At least it helps in keeping me upright!I really like the look of the bellypan,it seems to make the S look a little bit more sporting. Not to everyones liking ,but hey i like it! Anybody painted their engine? If so any info on prep and paint would be gladly appreciated. regards gus |

Sorry I did not make that clear, my bike is the 2001 "Light" which came with a Carbon lower fairing. I like its looks, but it accomplishes nothing other than prtecht the engine from rockchips/sandblast damage.
