New police bike

Our Police department in Long Beach felt the need for this cop to have a sports bike. I guess there are lots of super sonic speeders out there.. He forgot the knee sliders lol

Nice! But our lot seem to have better gear. Can you say ATGATT?

What a waste of public taxes. It isn't how fast you can pursue, it's how fast you can read a plate and use the radio to get other officers involved. High speed pursuits endanger the public, especially in municipalities.

This is stupid! Not just waste..Goes to show how our tax money is being managed.

I was riding Palomar mountain the other day, 6 cops on fully loaded 1200RT were going through the corners at 50 mph making it look like nothing! In formation and smooth. You don't need a sports bike to catch anyone...RT at 130 mph is fast enough.

Honest question, wouldn't a fully loaded RR be cheaper than an RT, or similar at least?

Lets see, when Long beach already has existing patrol motorcycles capable of accomplishing the task well beyond what is required, this is a waste of tax payers money.

Absolutely, I was one of those who rode an RT on duty. There's no protection on a slide, no protection from gunfire, and certainly most motor officers wouldn't submit or be subjected to riding anything like it. No storage for required motorist safety, radio, radar equipment.

I chatted with a CHP motor officer yesterday. He'd started on an R1100RTP, then moved on to an R1200... and 'progressed' to a Hardly-Ableson... said there's little difference in all...

Uh, ok. I think the R1200RTP does 0-100mph in just about 10 seconds... I wonder if the HD can do 100... and stay stable.

I'd love to see one of those dragging parts up ACH though.

New police bike??????

Here is the link for the story about that bike from three years ago....http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/sportbike-videos-reviews/457682-worlds-fastest-police-bike-bmw-s1000rr.html....oh and for all you overtaxed because of your local police departments....sorry to disappoint but it was donated......not a single tax dollar used to purchase that puppy. Cue the "Can you believe the police taking a donated bike/bribery/conspiracy" comments...

Tinted windshields on motorcycles are illegal in California. No known exemption for PD-operated motorcycles.

Mark wins.
They're not allowed to tint the windshields on their cars either.

and, as far as all this goes....it's been my experience (repeatedly, sadly), that you just can't outrun a radio.

Certainly.
But RT is easily a 150k to 200k miles bike. It's got room for everything a chp needs to have and should have as mentioned above.

Then I will question the sound judgement of the riding officer/s their Captain and municipal government accepting such a donation and usage.

That protective gear looks really.... Stupid.

I can imagine the jet helmet lifting from about 40mph too.

Do they have clear glasses for night riding and I'm which bags are they stored? LOL

Or maybe, BMW asked them to test one for them? As for the wind screen, it has to be a vision obscurement, although it can never be red or blue. That's obviously not one anyone looks through right? I think that's where folks get caught up.

calm down girls and boys, a motorcycle like that (or the equivalent in a fast car) are used as a PR tool to show all of us how cool cops can be.
it usually starts out as a confiscated vehicle.

if they'd just ditch the horse riding boots (i know, tradition and all) and riding gear that really only qualifies one to walk a neighborhood selling cable tv...

saw a CHP foto the other day of a "motor officer" wearing a complete leather suit that looks exactly like their long-sleeve uniform...correct boots and all.
maybe someday it'll go into production, but for now it's just like the bike...a PR thing.

many municipalities purchase BMW RT Police versions and ditch the Hardly-Ablesons because statistics show the BMW results in fewer physical issues, especially back pain.
that saves a town money and they like that.
