Repositioning Mirrors

As we all know, the mirrors on the R1100S are mounted directly to the bodywork of the bike. The position of the mirrors has always created a blind spot for me while riding. I find that I have to either shift my body to the right or left to see what is directly behind me.

My K1200RS has the same basic mirrors as the S, but they mount to the hydraulic fluid housings for the front brake and clutch on the clip ons. Does anyone have experience in removing the bodywork mounted mirrors on the S and relocating them to the clip ons? If so, does this improve rearward visability? Thanks.

No experience, but looking at the BMW website, the handlebar/windscreen proximity looks tighter on the S than on the K. I would guess the mirror stalk would hit the screen at full lock on the S.

You could consider bar-end mirrors. I had them on my old bike and thought they looked great and offered great rear visibility.

Ditto dsl's comments on both full lock interference, and how well bar end mirrors work in general. In fact, the S and one of my R90s are the only bikes I'm not running bar ends on. Great visibility.

Regards
Roger

BMW Roundel mirror replaced

Hi there Ralvidrez

I'have taken off the original R1100S mirrors ans replaced them with a single K1200RS mirror on the left site.

It look good and the view behind me isn't better or worse.
I must say that I heven't been riding with them.

I must look out to not damage the windshield because the mirror just hits it. I will place something to make sure every thing is oke.

see you
Coos

I keep looking at the bar end mirrors at
http://www.boxer-design.de/en/lenkerspiegel.htm
Wondering if that would allow me to see under the elbows?? Has anybody tried them?
