HP2S 50,000 km service

Well I'm about at the 50,000 KM major engine service on my HP2S and its running as good as ever.

Option a) keep dealer afloat all winter with the crazy service done.

Option b) sell the bike to a sucker who will have to mortgage his house and get a divorce to do the service.

Option c) forget about it for another 50 or 100K.

Leaning C

Just change oils, filters and adjust the valves.
Then flog it like you have been for another year!

Cheers

Don't you have to replace pistons, rings & such at this one?

That was an assumption on the side of BMW, based on the "purpose" of the bike, being more of a "racer". Earlier inspections have shown that the wear and tear is comparable to the other boxers.

Don't waste your money.

C. That motor will last forever. KTM, uses crazy low numbers for rebuilds also. My 300xc is supposed to be rebuilt at crazy low hours...like 50 hours. I did a top overhaul "piston" at 225 now at 275...plan on a complete rebuild at 500. And yes I ride at a race pace most of the time and even worst....I dual sport on the highway....for hundreds miles at a time.

I was being a bit sarcastic. No big rebuilds being considered. Runs as well as ever and has more than I can use. And I'm a user! However I am having a tail light issue that may be CPU related....GRRRRR

I remember when all you needed for a tail light was a bulb, a battery, some wire and a switch! It's a shame we can't get computer controlled injectors and spark without computer controlled indicators!
