Winter/Rain Suit

Hi All

It's winter again (yes I live on the bottom half of this rock ) and in my neck of the woods that's rainy season. Now staying warm is easy and staying dry is easy, but not so much when you have to do both at the same time.

So I have been looking around for a quick and easy solution to this scenario and have found these two items ...

Firstgear - Premium Motorcycle Gear Thermosuit from Firstgear

Weise Siberian Rain Suit | FREE DELIVERY

My criteria from the beginning was that I wanted a one piece (because it's just one piece of clothing and because my logic tells me the less gaps the harder it would be for the rain to find me) and that I want it to not only keep me dry but warm as well. I basically want something that will be a all in one. I don't want to struggle with layers and layers of clothing, just want something I can slip on over my work/casual cloths and be off.

What do you guys think? Are those good options? Do you have better ones? (bearing in mind I work for a living and have to feed my kids).

Thanks

between the two, the BMW suit is the better value.
you might do a little more shopping...there are others like aerostitch and klim.

I have been happy with my Firstgear riding apparel when it is new. After a few years of hard use it can start to leak a little. But for the price I just replace it if that happens.

I have had great experience with my Klim Overland jacket and pants. Only wish they zipped together, but that is an easy fix I think.

Even though its just a shell, it keeps me warm enough for the 20-30 minute ride to work in sub-freezing conditions with just slacks and a dress shirt underneath.

Highly recommend.

Aerostitch, you have GOT to be joking. Those suits are half the price I paid for the S, I vote no

Although I have no doubt the BMW item would be good quality, I do not see how they expect us to pay extra for the name just so we can advertise for them, seems a little backward.

Motorcyclegear.com has an awesome looking Joe Rocket suit, price is not that exorbitant either ... Joe Rocket Survivor Suit - 2013 :: MotorcycleGear.com ... will have to seriously consider it.

First call is still the Firstgear Thermal Suit, just need to find it in the right size.

Thanks

Sometimes in life you get what you pay for; plenty of stuff made in China out there, please keep buying Chinese, it does nothing but awesome for our economy! My Aerostitch is 16 years old, it went thru hell and back and it still looks great and does not leak. To each their own I guess.

+1

Although, I just replaced my 14 year old 'Stich last summer as it was finally starting to fray.

Seems like there should be a place to retire such a loyal piece of safety gear once it's taken out of service.

Best regards!

Once retired it makes a great snowmobile suit.

joe rocket gear is absolute crap.
we don't even bother to get it for comparison testing anymore, because there's nothing to learn, except how to make the minimum piece for the minimum price.
betcha walmart would turn that stuff down as being below their standards.
maybe dollar store would carry it. maybe.

I'm with Bill on Firstgear. I have used their product for years now and have always been impressed. I purchased two Firstgear jackets and one pant from Motorcyclegear.com Medium for warm weather, tight fit, and a large to layer under if needed. Great venting options IMO. I currently have the Kilimanjaro jacket and HT Air over pants. Very happy with the combination.

Ended up buying a pair of RST waterproof pants. So far I haven't had the opportunity to test the rainproofness but they sure are comfy/warm in the morning. Bought a slightly bigger size so I could wear it over my jeans.

Depending on how the season goes, I'll either look at a suit for next winter or maybe just a new jacket to compliment the RST pants.

Lets see ...

I had the BMW mid range (meaning price) Santiago suit. I put apx 100K on it over 6 years or so. Then I gave it to my Son and upgraded to the BMW streetguard (4) suit, two years ago. Well it set me back about $1800, but with liner in the suit is very warm. I have ridden on trips in some rain that almost made us pull off, and the suit never leaked what so ever. Also note that the material seems like it might be helpful in a crash. Also the amour is the new style from BMW that is supposed to be better. (ck their website). So yes you can get into some serious money, however when it may last 5-10 years.....that makes it seem less so. Also like a helmet, what are you trying to protect. Some will go cheap route on helmets........
