Time to rebuild/service Ohlins

Last December I picked up a 2007 R1200S. It has about 37,000km on it with the sports suspension. In anticipation of the new riding season and creating a baseline for the bike, I just completed the 20K km service + annual inspection according to the BMW manual and checklist.

In reviewing the service records, there is no indication that the suspension has ever been serviced. Is there a recommended or generally accepted interval to servicing the suspension? Are there different levels of service, i.e. just change the oil, or full rebuild, etc.

Thanks for the help.

Ohlins recommends 12,000 miles between services.

On BMW's that are used for touring, I recommend 12K to 20K miles.

Thanks for the inputs. I will schedule the service with my local Ohlins shop.

According to his price list, it looks to be between $250 and 300 for both ends including the labor to take them off and re-install. Does that sound reasonable?

It sounds way cheap, I paid that much to have mine rebuilt & I had to take them off.

This is in the Czech Republic though... I have found labor prices here to be a bit less then back in the US.

Hi,

I think I paid ~£700 sterling to have both mine rebuilt/made by the local ohlins dealer.

The shocks were six years old, had done about 40K miles and had no rebound dampening in them at all. (This was missed by the local BMW dealer when specifcally asked to explain a knocking noise from the rear)

It took a while as the parts on the 'BMW' edition were not standard ohlins stock - at least that was what I was told - so had to come from Sweden.

Adrian
PS I took mine off myself as well.
