Wasting time with video

Got back from my annual trip a little over a week ago and still sifting through my photos. Made over a 1000, so it is going to take me some time to go through and edit everything from the trip. Besides the photos, I also have about 5 hours of on-board video to mess with. Sigh. :D

So before I can write a trip report of an epic ride through Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and France, I'd thought and see if I can make you waste about half an hour of your time by watching the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse in what was supposed to be summer, but didn't feel like it with 2C temps on top and windforce 8-9 trying to push everyone from the road.

Beautiful

Nice. And I like the data and map. Does the Garmin do all that including the map?
I wonder if they can be talked into adding a lean-ometer.

It does, and more. Including g-force in all directions and pitch & roll. Though it appears the camera wasn't entirely level so I left it off. It can even interface to the bike ZFE using a BT dongle and ODB2 connector. I am just trying to figure out how and where I can leave that big fat ODB2 cable so I can actually use the onboard data. It then basically captures every piece of data BMW has made available for live monitoring, ie actual speed, rpm, gear, TPS position, temperature, power output etc and most of these can then be used by the Garmin software as overlay on video. I've tested it, it works. Just need to figure out a way to put it all on the bike in a usuable and driveable means when there is no space left under the seat. Not that there was much to start with...

I'd be interested to see how that all works out. It appears this Garmin has some interesting advantages over a GoPro.
Does it have an internal map or does it pull the map from another Garmin unit? The adverts are not clear on this.

thanks.

I have the Virb XE and everything that's now displayed is from the internal GPS and internal sensors, no separate GPS required for any of it. I only use my Zumo 590 to control the camera, which is pretty cool: I can start/stop video recording, take photos by using the camera controls on the Zumo display after linking the camera to it. So it doesn't matter where you mount the camera or wether you can reach it or not, you can control it while riding from the screen of the GPS. I wish it would also let you stream the image to the GPS though.

I made some 5 hours of video; I'll post more as I go through it.

Dammit TM, you are not helping my Alps jones.

Sorry Richard. :D

Here's one that's not the Alps, just my backyard in Luxembourg.

And another one. Gerloss Pass, Austria. Because Richard wants more Alps. :D

Only a few more hours of video to sort through...

Couple more, even though there doesn't to be much interest.
