Question Rapid Dog Risers in Western MA?

Hi all,

Newbie to the forum. Looking at buying a 02 R1100S but need a more upright position. Found Rapid Dog and got great info. My question is this:

Does anyone close to me have his risers installed that would let me sit on their bike to see if it's upright enough?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks
Bat

If you're up for a road trip I'd say go look at this gentleman's dual spark bike in Vermont. I thought he had bar risers on it too but can't quite tell from the photos and they aren't listed. Clutch splines at 33k makes me wonder... Maybe one of the old timers (I use that as a term of endearment) will chime in. 2004 BMW R1100S w/34,200mi- Excellent condition

He had it listed last year at $5200 and still hasn't sold it, but it seems well equipped. These bikes don't seem to be selling around here. I bought mine a year ago with 10k miles, very happy with it so far. Bleeding the servo ABS was fun!

Good luck with your potential purchase! Welcome to the forum!

Kyle,

Thanks for the info. I have seen his bike on other CL searches as well. He is asking to much. And I'd still need to check the risers, the photo look to be stock installation.

They're all asking too much, it's craigslist. Have you seen the one in Charlton, MA? Guy's asking $6500 for a "2004" that's somehow a single spark? What a clown, wonder what that guy's on.

Most people selling BMW's on craigslist in this area seem to think their bike is worth $2k over blue book because they owned it and "it's a BMW." Americans scare the shhhh!t out of me, and I'm an American.

Not too long ago this guy was selling a very nice 2003 BCR with 1,600 miles.

2003 BMW R Series | eBay

He called me 2 weeks ago, to see if I was still interested. I bough one with 11,000 miles instead because it had much more goodies and was a dual plug bike. vHe now has a Ducati for sale here:

Ducati Superbike | eBay

He was asking $6,500 for it has been trying to sell for over a year now. I think he realized he was asking too much but I bet he would take $6K for it.

Good luck with the search

The one picture where you can sort of see the top yoke and bars isn't clear enough for my old eyes. But looking at my rig (with Rapid's risers) makes me think the bike in question has them.

The bar risers were just enough for me (6'2", 31 inch inseam) to make it pretty comfy. So much so that I sold the Suburban Machinery peg kit before installing it. Of course coming off a Ducati 900 SS/SP the S sort of felt like a Gold Wing.

OTOH, Rapid's bar kit is pretty inexpensive, given the ease of installation and craftsmanship, well worth the cost of an upgrade.

YMMV, of course!

...there's been a couple-three R1100S' on the Aventure Rider forum lately for killer prices.
Case in point, this one has got to be a Pelicaneer, totally got all the goods (except this really cool barbacks) >>>

Those are for regular handlebar bikes, not clip-ons like the S.
Very popular on other bikes for sure.

This appears to be a pretty good setup, I am thinking about getting a set, although looks more like a dirt bike looks.

Superbike Handlebars Conversion Kit BMW R 1100 s R1100S | eBay

With the stock handlebar, I feel a lot of pressure/weight directly on my wrists/palms; this would allow for a much more upright position. Unfortunately it changes the entire look of the bike, not a deal breaker for me since I'm after comfort first. A bit more involve with installation though, with hydraulic lines relocation.

...that's the least expensive I've ever seen for a SB bar set-up, if that's what your after.
Doesn't say much about the quality of the actual handlebars though. The bend of the bars and the width are really a personal thing.
IMO these take away form the look of the S, but to each his own

...just FYI, I'll have 6 sets of my barbacks available in two weeks, 3 that are spoken for already.
Anyone want a set just e-mail me (order@rapiddog.net). They go quick during the riding season.

Hi all,

Appreciate all the info. Still just trying to sit on a r1100s with rapid dogs risers on it. I will be traveling down south, from MA to NC next week. Stopovers in Philly, Culpepper, VA, Snow Camp NC, Asheville NC. If anyone has his risers on there bike and close I would stop by if you have time for me.

Thanks,
Peter

Bar backs

I'm in SE MA with a '99 R1100S with the Rapid Dog Risers. They're about the best option for the money IMHO, probably as far as you can go without swapping out brake lines etc. Spiegler lists a kit in their catalog, I don't know if they stock them anymore.

Let me know if you want to do a meetup sometime although I'll be away this weekend.

Barbacks came in yesterday, and I shipped out 5 of the 6 sets, so one set remains...

YZR500.
Know that if your BCR is non-ABS you're gong to need the longer brake line at the handlebar master...

I just installed the Rapid Dog riser kit and I agree, it is very well made and worth every penny. The ease of installation and no mods were nice too. However, some buyers seem to have had to make a few adjustments.
