John Gemi Chip

I have read about the John Gemi chip on his facebook page. Nothing but positive reports on boxers. Its available on ebay too. Anybody got his chip? Sound pretty good.

Just fitted one to my 2003 twin spark BCR. Guy has been very helpful to date. Will update once I get a few miles under my belt. Easy to fit if you have the right security torx tool to separate the ECU.

Harris, will appreciate your opinion after you ride. What stage chip did you get?
All positive feedback on ebay and facebook wants to make me a believer.

Yes, it sure would be nice to see a new upgrade chip for the 1100s. BTW...Are the Laser chips still available?

I've communicated with John a lot on the chips he's doing. He's an earnest guy but has not used a GS-911 to see if his changes are doing what he thinks. Just recently he bought a Wideband O2 and discovered that fuel isn't being added in places he thinks it is. He sent me some chips to try and they didn't add the fuel he claimed (based on my Wideband O2 data and GS-911 logs).

There are other ways to add fuel that work with the existing tables and are proven to work.

Although chip replacement carries a risk of Motronic damage, John's chips aren't costly.

How is it then that so many people report great improvement on their bikes?

I refer to that as "I spent some money on this so of course it works".

Latest update of my fitting of Johns chip to my 2003 BCR Beemer - Fitted the chip to the bike, reassembled tank etc, went to start the bike and noticed the fuel pump would not stop priming. Thinking I had done something wrong during reassembly, I checked everything. I had labelled the two fuel lines so they were fine. Nothing else found amiss. Fuel pump connector was fine with no corrosion or damage. So contacted John who immediately sent another chip. Stripped the bike down again, fitted the new chip, reassembled the bike and ....... the same thing happened! Stripped the bike down yet again, fitted the original standard chip, reassembled the bike( getting good at it by this stage!) and the bike fired first time as if nothing had happened, so clearly a chip issue. John has been great to date and has asked me to send photos of the standard chip and check it isn't mounted to anything aftermarket so he can sort the issue out. Hoping to get a rise of some sort on the bike before the winter comes around! Watch this space!!

Thanks for the update. I really appreciate your feedback as I am about to install my chip soon.

Some people have had the same problem going back to the stock chip from an aftermarket one. I did too when I left the encryption board on the main board and plugged in the stock chip into it.

See this thread-

Fuel pump keeps running

Photo of a chip on left and a chip plugged into the encryption board on Motronic main board.

Good luck

I installed my chip today. Stage 8. Since my tank is off I decided to also do my brake lines with Spieglers.

So, after I installed it and connected the battery back I started the bike and it sounded quite a bit different. Idle was smooth but there was this grunt when I revved the bike. One thing is clear it is revving much faster than before. Once I give it a ride I will report.

Took the bike out today to test my chip mod. All I can say is that chip really does work and improves how the engine runs. The main feeling I get is that it revs much better all the way up 7KRPM. Before the chip getting up on the revs felt like the engine was about to explode. Now it revs up smooth all the way up without the stress. I actually need to do more riding to learn how the new engine curve works. Bike feels very good and I recommend this chip specially if you have a other mods on your engine.

That's very close to how the Laser chip works with their exhaust. Most power is 5-8k rpm & it wants to rev out with ease. For flying through the twisties I usually run 6-8k rpm for best effect. It does still run well at lower revs in town but it prefers to fly.
