Proper phasing of the 2 piece drive shaft

I have an 1100s that has noticable vibration between 4000 and 4500 RPm. I wanted to know what would be the most simple way of checking for the correct drive shaft phasing , hopefully without removing the paralever or even maybe the final drive housing

I am not sure the driveshaft would be the first place I look, Victor. Check throttle body sync under load. These things react adversely to out-of-balance TB's...

If it was wheel speed related then you might look for driveline issues.. but if it is rpm related then follow Ralf's advice.

This is very interesting to me too. I've recently noticed the same thing after shipping my bike out to Asheville, NC. I had the bike serviced at the shop so that they would take delivery of the shipment on my behalf, even though I've normally done the servicing myself. The roughness was sure noticeable and the motor didn't pull as strongly as I remember (though I'm spoiled by my Multistrada now). I figured the shop would have synched the TBs as I had a major service done, but maybe not. I know they serviced the trans/final drive and so I suspected perhaps they somehow messed up the phasing of the driveline. I'm going to bring my tools next time to make sure the TB synch is not the problem. Thanks Ralf-

ON the 12 it is a little more involved, Mike... but in the end not really harder. (I assume that you have a GS911?)

You also want to make sure that your coils are OK, seeing how you feel a slight loss of power. But then, it might just be that you are switching between a tractor and a race bike in disguise...

Yes, I have GS911 for the idle synch and I use the yardstick + tube of trans fluid for the off-idle synch. As for the tractor vs. race bike in disguise, yes the Multi is great for its acceleration out of corners, but I find that I really ride at about the same pace no matter what bike I'm on. It's clearly not the bike that really matters on the road, as you well know-

Now that I think about it, I must check those little caps for the balance ports. One is stock foam-type and the other is vinyl one from the auto parts store. The vinyl ones crack after not too much time causing all sorts of poor running.

Well there ya go! And yes, it is less the bike and more between the ears, really.

Best rider is the one who enjoys him or herself the most anyway!

Although I suspect you're problem is elsewhere, here's the answer to your question.
