Parking in the City

Hey boys and girls, I am trying to find a convenient location to park my bike in boston, but every place I call is charging me the same rate as a car ($350/mos). Is this similiar in other cities? Is there any way i can avoid this? or would you guys know any places in boston where i could park my r1100s? Thanks, Eric

Unfortunately, we Americans need to come a long way to "accomodate" bikes. Most of the garages I know of in Chicagoland do the same. I have my own garage, so I am lucky. On a day-to-day basis, when I go into the city at least, I try park in a smaller non-automated garage..I just slip a 10-spot to the attendent an I often get prefered a parking space. The problem these days is that some many garages are automated so I can't pull this off as easily! We take up a quarter of the space...we should pay based on size (of our bikes!)

Just for point of reference, at the NYC MC show, I saw a booth for a dedicated motorcyle parking garage in Manhattan. They were charging $175 per mo. NYC cage prices look like they're about the same as Boston. Sorry, don't remember name of the garage.

Paying to park, or for that matter drive on a road is crap. I avoid pay to park and toll roads as much as possible. Of course I don't live in abig city such as Boston or Chicago. Chad

Hello Eric Would love to be able to point you to a cheap option for garaging your bike. Over the past 5 years in this city I have kept my bike in my back yard, on the sidewalk (only gotten a couple of tickets for that believe it or not), and in a friend's unused garage. I see a lot of bikes on the side of people's houses under covers and locked to something. I suppose it's a reasonable alternative to spending $350 a month to have an entire parking spot to yourself. You might consider asking a parking garage if you can share the spot with another bike/s. If so, you could probalby fit 3-4 in one spot and run your costs way down. Kampy
