Latest BMW rumour mill...

To be taken with the usual amount of salt...

According to a report in the latest edition of MO (German Motorcycle magazine)...

- BMW have passed Kawasaki in sales (year 2002), not sure if this is worldwide or Germany only
- The factory in Berlin will be expanded by 16000 m²
- 80 year company jubillee
- 10 year 4 v boxer
- 20 year K - series

A new model (RS) is expected at the Mailand Saloon in the Autumn:
- K-series type but
- motor across the frame
- belt drive (a la 650 CS)
- and wait for it - Mini Cooper S type compressor giving 150 ps with an allround weight of 245kg.
- the telelever will become a duolever due to the nature of the engine layout

Cost expected at €15000

We can dream, after all....

Hi Webby, thanks for the information - I enjoy the rumors! I'm dissappointed the rumoured supercharged S didnt eventuate in 2003. If you could infiltrate the Berlin factory and examine the blueprints then that would be appreciated!

Your fellow Albino Rodent,
Rattus

I hope it's true, a supercharged liquid cooled inline 4, with belt drive RS would be ideal for BMW's 80th B-Day. Just keep the wheelbase shorten to around the 57ish inch range, not the bus-like wheelbase length of the K-RS, which is now 61".

I'm still waiting for the R1200S that I read about in one of the US mags. Not holding my breath though.

Hey Rattus, I got sick of waiting for the supercharged version too, so I went and had some stickers made. It appears that the average punter thinks that kompressor is a Mercedes Benz brand name so become quite confused when they see it alongside the BMW roundel. I think it makes my S faster too.

Cheers,

Frank

To get the non-decreasing trail geometry that the current bikes have requires that the rear pivot for the front "A" arm be about the same height as its front pivot at the lower triple clamp, thus that A arm parralell to the ground. That would be very clumsy to achieve with a crossways multi cyclinder engine requiring the A arm to wrap around the cylinders. Thus it sounds like they are working around that obsticle with a multi link deal? I look forward to seeing how they do that!

Good Work Fast Frank... gotta keep that Kompressor dream alive! No other possible future direction of the boxer engine fascinates me as much as this.

And wouldn't it be awesome to own (or have a go at riding) that 1939 model.

Frank,

Your bike was already fast before the stickers, I can tell because it is black, just like the real Kompressor bikes.

How many seconds till Jclark sees this post....
