Possible neutral switch problem?
 

Hey y'all. So, I went to start my bike this morning, on the sidestand, and apparently I left it in gear. Bike lurched forward, but I caught it in time.

So I get on, put the sidestand up, start the motor, kick out the sidestand, and the motor cuts out like it should. Fuel pump and ECU are being (appropriately) cut out when the stand is down, and the engine in gear. But the starter motor isn't getting disabled. Neutral indicator is working just fine.

Any idea what's up?

if memory serves, this is the one that was stolen ham-fistedly? dunno whether that'd have anything to do with it, just brainstorming

Correct! But I did a thorough inspection on it way long ago, and the interlock was working fine until just recently. None of the wiring was impacted by that theft attempt beyond the ignition switch, which was replaced.

looks like there is a clutch switch in the left control pod. same kinda thing as the brake light switch in the right pod. when you pull in the clutch, can you hear a faint 'click' as it reaches or exits the part of the travel where the clutch is being acted on? same kinda 'click' you hear when starting to pull the right lever

check the clutch switch if the clutch is pulled in as I remember it they will turn over and not
start with the side stand down.

Oh, y'know, y'all are probably right. The click isn't happening reliably.

I just double-checked on my GF's R1200C, and sure enough, no starter motor if the clutch is out, but it cranks if the clutch is in. I had thought the clutch wasn't a factor.

I probably have a couple and usually you can just loosen the screws and adjust and clean it.

That switch usually fails the other way. The switch doesn't recognize the clutch is in so you can't start the bike. Yours may be the first I've ever heard of.
