BMW donates bikes to Pentagon

just read on motorcycle.com that BMW donated six RT-P bikes to help jump start the Pentagon Motorcycle Unit. with only seven miles between me and the capitol and having to pass the Pentagon every day, seeing some military RT-P's will be pretty cool.

hint hint nudge nudge to all the pentagon S riders...

we're just starting to see the AZ Highway Patrol scooting around on those... neat looking bikes, but I haven't had the opportunity to pull over next to one or be pulled over by one yet.

Some NY police departments have them.
The only problem is the police around here leave their bikes on all day, while sitting still. Which as we all know is a no no.
These RT's have a cooling fan behind the oil cooler, but I dont know if thats enough.

I've attached a photo taken at the new CHP pursuit class. Scary huh?! Actually this is Doug Kamholtz a California Highway Patrol office who decided to have some fun with his R1 track bike.

He rides an RT on duty and bought a set of Ohlins shocks for it so he could get some more ground clearance. He is an ex-racer and still goes pretty well, so I'm sure he would surprised anyone who may try to run when the lights come on.

He also likes the RT a lot for police work, it's comfy for all day and handles well for a big bike.

Maryland State Police has 5 RT-Ps in it fleet now. It made a lot of people upset until they road the bikes and found out that they would not have to worry about them breaking down like the H-Ds

Hi,

I've seen a lot of the RT-Ps down here in Texas. If the fans are adequate for us or AZ in the summer, then it must truly be no problem.
Of course there has to be a bit less oil life, but I've not heard the local mech's who service them brign up any extra issues, fwiw.

later
