Any Ural owners here???

I am seriously considering getting rid of my car and purchasing a Ural. Finances don't allow me to right this moment, but hoping to test ride one and see if I actually like it.
I live in VT and know the winters are gonna be hard. I have, however, commuted by bicycle in the winter and know how to deal with the cold.
I am curious if anyone out here on this forum has year round experience with riding a Ural? Reliability? OK in the snow?
Thanks for any input.
Happy riding!
Sean

I had occasion to work on a few. Have put about 100 miles total on a number of units. Know people that have owned and operated them.

They are not suitable as a primary mode of transportation. 45 mph is really the higher speed they will tolerate for distances. Reliability on a scale of 10 being highest is 4. Carburetion and electrics are crude.

The attached car is the best part.

Winter riding is actually a secondary concern. That said, Ural does offer a 2WD that you'll want for the snow. They're pricier and harder to come by, used.

If you're set on a sidecar, I would suggest a DMC or Liberty to attach to a reliable Japanese, German or American motorcycle. Depending on your budget, I've seen some interesting outfits using the BMW R1200GS. But these would not be 2WD.

Have you ever driven a sidecar outfit? They're sort'a tricky. I would suggest you purchase/read this manual to see what's involvedl:

Thanks Mark. I plan on test riding to see if I even like it. I have heard riding them is tricky. Main use of the bike would be around VT and I would only get a 2wd version.
Cheers,
Sean

There's a lot of Urals that pass through this town. I think the top speed is more in the 60 mph range. It's enough that they aren't holding traffic up anywhere, unlike the ATV's...

I wouldn't own one, just not my cup of tea, but a Ural actually looks like fun. I see guys with their dogs in the sidecar, just cruising, camping...

I sent him a text, he may drop by later.

Ural tracks

But they don't turn in 2wd
When I'm on the Ural I don't worry about falling down in snow/ice/sand/creek crossings (as opposed to when I'm on a bike).
Let me know if I can be of a.ssistance

I rode a friends Ural once He insisted I try it.

It didn't have a sidecar and I think that is the closest thing I have experienced to an
old tractor on 2 wheels. Holy ****.

I'd like to try it with a sidecar but without it.... would take some getting used to .
