BMW High Performance 2 Sport (1st Thread)

It is with great pleasure that I announce that the HP2Sport now has a Pelican dedicated forum. I wish to thank Wayne for graciously allowing Pelicans who own and those who will own in the future, a pace to amass data on the HP2S. Have a great day.

I think it is a great idea to have a separate forum for HP2 SPORT Owners. I know that there are other forums for HP2 but everybody does not know where they are.

Does anybody knows how many HP2 owners are in this forum?

I almost didn't see this forum since I've never read of the HP2Sport labeled as High Performance 2 Sport. Are the threads in the other area gonna be moved into here?

I'll ask Roger if he wouldn't mind doing that. We'll see his response

This also sounds good Bubba

Good idea Sergio, move all HP2 Sport items over here (and skip the bull***** )

Another thing about European VIN#
I saw and meet one of the latest HP2 Sport owner (yep, the Hartenjager Nr5 replica) at the dyno in Goes ... looked at his VIN and it's in the 615xx (mine is 610xx)

Hope to see here all kinds of stuff from the High Performance 2 Sport

I don't blame these guys wanting a place to talk about and track their bikes with out putting up with all the BS each tread evolves into here. BTW don't take your BS up there, you know who are you jealous lass

I also couldn't believe one guys VIN1012#. Does that mean they are tey have manufactured over a 1000 of these world wide. Remarkable!"

jc, I've seen no evidence that the homoligation levevel has ever been reached. If 200 have been shipped (certainly not all sold) to North America I'd be surprised. Maybe 500 worldwide but even that number is very optimistic.

Is it just the way they number the rest of the world?

I saw the #1012 and was a little freaked out by the high number.

Keep up the good work here, I hold out hope that I can join y'all one day with my own High Performance 2 Sport

As far as I know, there are no homologation req. for HP2S. Yes, there are in WSBK. HP2S has no real series in which to run that requires a set amount of bikes built.

The bike is the most beautiful creation BMW has ever built, and those of you lucky enough to be able to afford a $25,000 USD machine have the Boxer holy grail in your garage.

That said, the entire R line will have essentially that same mill beginning in '10, and this is a great example of how racing tech quickly trickles down to street bikes. Well done, BMW.

Look for an excellent DOHC valve adjustment instruction article by Chris Hodgson in the January issue of On The Level, the magazine dedicated to BMW riders. If any of you have something you'd like to contribute to the rag, please get in touch with me.

Just a FYI, Wild Will, (Will Guyan) is the new editor of BMW RA's mag OTL, his first issue is the upcoming Jan issue and will feature a lot of Tech. Chris Hodgson has told Will that he will submit tech articles with the first being a complete write up on adjusting the valves of the DOHC Boxer engine complete with full color pictures.

In the ensuing months, he will submit similar write ups on the S1000RR

Dean could you talk Will into posting it on this site as a PDF file after it's published since he'd have the copyrights on the document?

Second POST (wrong place first time) Newbie here - HP2 Sport owner in GA (once was selling - Now keeping - got a good job) just wanted to check in and chat about this bike -

Mine is a non-ABS and i hear differing opinions about that - I specifically wanted no abs for several reasons (right or wrong):
1) fewer made
2) lighter
3) better feel
4) more raw
5) all my other bikes have abs
6) mainly for track
7) motorcycles are supposed to be dangerous
8) fear of god
9) any suggestions
10) please enlighten me!

This bike was purchased as a personal celebration of my 30th motorcycle! I love its purity and beauty...not the fastest or best at much of anything(except orinality and quality) - but that has NEVER been the point with BMWs (save the s1000) but certainly not BOXERS! in other words - I do not care about the performance - it is a philosophical issue for me personally - anyone? thoughts?

Tom, BMW has never released the numbers on the '08/09 bikes toe the USA. I suspect that it is less than 100 total for both years. I track the bike that pelicans give me the data on but it is not even close to complete.
