2000 z3

I have noticed my horn will go off intermittently at times. Is it possible that the hood switch is bad?

The horn should work much like most vehicles where there is a contact on the steering wheel and a wire that runs down the column. perhaps there is an issue there.

Or do you mean that the alarm is going off?

Not the steering wheel but I think the alarm switch under the hood. It is up on the front left side near the latch. I pushed the switch in and out about a dozen times and shot some PB Blaster in it. So far so good but time will tell.

It's been about a week and the alarm horn has not gone off. I think that switch gets stuck, so operating it a bunch of times seemed to make it unstuck and also using PB Blaster on it. However if it becomes a problem I will just unplug it. With hood closed it is in a normally open condition.

Awesome! It's good to hear you've got the issue tracked down. Lubricating it seems to be the trick. Just be careful with Pb blaster as it can be a bit corrosive. If it does fail and you want to retain the functionality of the alarm, it looks like we have the replacement switch available in stock. Just a heads up! BMW and MINI Alarm System Switch

Thanks. So far it seems to be fine.
