Z3 automatic
 

I have a 1997 Z3 2.8 with an automatic tranny. I typically do routine maintenance on my vehicles, and was suprised by not being able to locate a "dip stick" for checking fluid levels in the transmition. I refered to the manual, and it has nothing to reference for that type maintenance.

Am I completely blind, or is there no way to check the transmition fluid level?

BMW has not had a trans dipstick for a long time now.
You check the level at the trans pan(under the car)--there is a plug on the side of the pan that is removed to check the level with the engine running while the engine/trans is at operating temp

If the fluid is at or slightly above the bottom of the hole the level is ok

97740i is correct. I've searched and found out that your auto is a GM Hydramatic unit that uses Dexron III. I use Amsoil ATF in mine. Good luck! - Marvin
