First Tow
I just bought a non running z3 1997 manual trans. I am going to tow it home in the morning with a dolly.
I want to disconnect the drive-shaft/differential connection and wire up the shaft so I don't wreck the tranny too. Expert questions: Can I reach the drive-shaft flange to differential bolts without taking the exhaust off. Can the drive shaft be slid forward at all so I can run this car to my barn? I have worked on cars for twenty years out of necessity...engine rebuilds etc. The potential of this car is very exciting, thanks for your help. Joe |

Well, no help here.
However, I did use the pictures from the article on replacing the rubber disks behind the trans for good effect. No, there is not enough room to slide the DS forward off the differential. AND, yes you do have to remove the exhaust system and heat shield to get the drive shaft off. It was a good day. |
