Z3 security system
 

I'm brand new to the Z3 world - just purchased a 1998 this week and I'm still going thru the car to figure out what works and what doesn't. I can't get my key fob to activate the locks - lock or unlock. The vehicle will chirp (3) times when I hit the lock or unlock button and the panic button works too but the locks don't move. I can lock all the doors by turning the key into the lock but not using the key fob. Anyone have any ideas where to start?? Thanks for any help!

3 chirps means something is ajar..usually the hood or trunk and it won't lock. check the under hood plunger switch first as it's the most likely culprit.

I have the same issue on my z3 m coupe. It chirps three times but I was able to run the diagnostic and all circuits show doors, hatch, hood, everything as closed. What next?

Must be endemic. I have exactly the same problem.
I have not had the chance to inspect the door, trunk, and hood switches, but the dome light operates correctly, so I have to assume the door switches are OK.
