Check Engine Light go off upon repair?

Q: Does the Boxter (1999) Check Engine Light go off upon repair? So if it is caused by a low oil level or bulb out and it is remedied, will it go out, or does it have to be reset with a meter or by a mechanic?

Behind the check engine light there are codes that define what it was that caused the CEL. Generally, after you have read the codes and read up on what that code means and what could cause it you fix what is wrong. The next task is to clear the codes and drive the car for a while to reset things and
allow each sensor to send its signals to the ECO and for the ECU to learn what is the new normal.

Don't assume you know what the cause is without reading the codes.
