black specks in oil filter

Opened up oil filter during oil change on boxster. can't pick up with magnet. randomly found throughout filter. Trouble coming? Any ideas or experience with same? Thanks.
Only purchased this 2002 about 2 months ago. 50K miles

Most likely candidate are the wear pads on the chain tensioning paddles. Common.

Check your cam deviation values to see if they are in spec. If they are, you are OK for the time being.

I have no idea what they "cover" as I pay little attention to what they say. Durametric, PST II, or PIWIS will read the cam deviations; specs are +/- 6 degrees. If you are over 6, the pads are substaintially beat and will need to be replaced.

the foxwell 510 or 520 will also show cam deviation.
