2001 Tiptronic
My 2001 2.7 w/ TIP has been great. Runs great, shifts great but had a trans fluid leak. My Import Mechanic says " needs new Torque Converter and pump. " Now, $3700 later he says it won't shift at all and trans has gone bad. He also filled it with fluid and tested it prior to working on it. Could he have damaged my TIP permanently? Am I obligated to pay for my car that ran going in and will not run coming out? HELP!!!
Thanks all! |

Where do you live determines the law. Was there a written quote with your approval signature on it. Is that required by your state?
For $3700 I would have thought he could have bought a used transmission and installed it. |

First, is your mechanic a Porsche mechanic? Like has some Porsche training and works at a dealer or a good indie specialist?
He put a new pump and TC in? That shouldn't ruin a transmission. Are you sure he used the correct ATF? It does take a special fluid (cuz Porsche's are special) and a poorly informed "mechanic" might put the wrong stuff in. Since the car drove in, I would say that the "mechanic" is at least partially responsible for fixing it--tho you may have to go to small claims court to get it. Repairs do come with warranties. And at least an implication that the car won't end up worse than when the "mechanic" started the job. There are transmission shops that can work on Tiptronics--they are used in other VW conglomerate cars. I guess I'd look for one and have them diagnose and fix the problem and then go after your "mechanic."
