Tiptronic changes

I read somewhere but can't seem to find the article again about a change/improvement in the Tiptronic transmission. I'll limit it to the Boxster years before the PDK, since I think I was reading about Boxster or Cayman at the time. Does anybody know if a change was made that improved the Tip before the PDK came out. I had a 2002 Boxster S and had some issues with the Tip. The problems seemed to go away after I had the engine mounts replaced so maybe that was it. I'm thinking of buying a Cayman or maybe another Boxster and am shying away from a TIP because of that. Somewhere in the 2000 era the ability to shift up/down via the paddles without touching the shift lever was introduced. My '99 didn't have it, '01 did.
