Cayman Turbo Engine Build or swap? Experts needed!

So I have a 2007 2.7 with headers and exhaust and a 08 3.4. I’m going to turbo one of them just not sure what the best route to go is. I’m leaning toward the 2007 since it has 143,000 miles which renders it close to worthless in the Porsche world. My questions are has anyone tested how much the 2.7 crank or block can hold? Is the 3.4L from a 07-08 a direct drop in with a 3.4 ECU? Need the 3.4 harness? What am I looking for externally to make sure I don’t buy a 06 IMS plagued engine definitely want a 07-08 as a starting point. I’m thinking I’ll turbo the 2.7 then build a 3.4 (bored to 3.6) to drop in then really crank the boost go Cayman R suspension gutted and caged. If the 3.4 isn’t a direct swap I may just build the 2.7. Purpose of this car is to make it into a debadged fire breather! I’ve searched countless hours and haven’t been able to find any of these answers. All help is appreciated!

Is this a DIY project or did you want to have an experienced shop handle the build?
How far do you want to go with performance? A 4.0L TT is possible with deep pockets.
All of the 06-08 987.1 motors still have the IMS w 2 scavenge pumps instead of 4 on later models.
Track-capable demon or primarily a street rod?

I have an experienced engine builder I am working with. I like to go to him with exactly what I’m doing and do it with him. Pockets are deep and I want to shock the hell out of everyone on the track:D
I like the sound of the 4.0 but don’t want to get into 911 engines want to use a period correct Cayman motor. IMS doesn’t scare me their failure rates on the M97 is so rare that I’m not worried. My understanding is the 07/8 had an upgraded IMS from the 06. Any idea about power the 2.7 can handle? 3.4 a direct drop in? Thanks!

Be sure he is an experienced water cooled Porsche M96 or M97 engine rebuilder!
